Job Summary: Upon completion of training, Team Member will have a thorough understanding of Feathers and Blood Processing Equipment, start-up and shut-down processing procedures using GMP's for FSMA compliance which results in a safe quality final product of Feather Meal. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Operates a rubber-tired skid-loader safely to stockpile raw feathers and load them into a Spreader Bin, using 3-point skid loader entry/exit stance. Maintains skid-loader by checking fluids daily, greasing as directed and cleaning it daily before shift end. Follows procedures to pump blood from outside pit to inside holding tank when deliveries arrive, including rinsing of outside blood tank and lid. Team Member is on time for assigned shift and organized in the operation of the Continuous Feathers and Blood Processing, and Ring Dryer process. Monitors processing pressure and temperature gauges closely to maintain quality final product of Feather Meal with less than 6% moisture content. Tests Feather Meal moisture at least once per shift. Tightens Hydrolyzer shaft packing as needed to stop leaks. Inspects Rotary Finger Picker Screen Discharge Bin frequently for foreign materials (rubber fingers, gloves, etc.) and remove them. Empties Quills Barrel in Grinding Room as needed and before the end of each shift. Complete Feather Processing Daily Inspection Monitoring Record, Document # 121201. Uses trained judgment safely. Dry cleans (sweeps) the Grinding Room and hot hi-pressure wash cleans the main processing area and equipment before daily shift end. Completes daily Critical Control Point and Control Point Monitoring and completes all required documentation. Monitors offal processing operations when Shift Leader loads trucks, inspects WWTP, takes lunch and as directed. At shift change, report/ask questions/understand answers, etc. Reports equipment failures, foreign matter in raw materials, spills and any other problems or concerns promptly to Shift Leader and, as needed, to the Plant Manager. Takes a proactive rule in assuring safe, quality products are produced by immediately addressing any safety or quality concerns. Other duties as assigned by Team Leader, Plant Manager or V.P. of Rendering Operations Competencies Ability to self-supervise and/or work independently, completing assigned tasks daily. Qualifications and Skills Strong written and oral communication skills and English proficiency in order to read, interpret, and document process procedures and daily inspections. Ability to perform basic math. Must complete mandatory training (Fire Safety, First Aid/CPR/AED, Forklift (every 3 years), LOTO/PPE/Dust/Hazard Comm./Confined Space, Hearing, Food Safety, and other training as assigned. Ability to operate a skid loader. Ability to use Hi-Pressure Washer. Ability to pass Forklift Certification. Ability to self-supervise or work independently. Education and/or Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
