This capability supports both critical and subcritical experiments and training. NCERC-FO provides the operational backbone for the National Criticality Experiments Research Center (NCERC). NCERC operates four criticality assemblies that can be broadly categorized as benchmark, fast-burst, and general-purpose assemblies. These assemblies provide the capability to perform critical, subcritical, and fundamental physics measurements. NCERC is operated within a hazard category 2 nuclear facility located at the Nevada National Security Site. NCERC-FO is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Senior Nuclear Facility Engineer to support the operation of its four category B nuclear reactors. Primary responsibilities include: Develop and implement project plans for the design, installation, and commission of improvements to the category B nuclear reactors. Providing design authority support for operations and maintenance, and technical support to line management to ensure continued operational readiness. Managing the configuration, operability, and performance of NCERC's 4 category B reactors. Resolving unusually significant, unique, and complex reactor issues in a timely manner while adhering to established policies, procedures and practices. Establish and define the requirements and oversee the purchasing of technical goods and services in accordance with nuclear quality assurance guidelines. Develop additional responsibilities that enhance the capabilities at NCERC, including becoming a Fissionable Material Handler, nuclear maintenance worker, and Person in Charge. This position demands scrupulous attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work across organizations, companies, and federal agencies from around the country and internationally. What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Expert knowledge of nuclear facility engineering in one or more of the following: system engineering, project engineering, or design engineering. Expert knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques. Expert knowledge of relevant Laboratory procedures, standards, and guides Expert knowledge of nuclear facility engineering principles and procedures, guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices. Experience directing nuclear reactor maintenance activities. Experience directing high hazard nuclear operations. Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present information and respond effectively to colleagues, management, and sponsors. Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and make decisions, solve problems, exercise good judgment, work under time constraints, work with minimal supervision and prioritize workload. Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 12 years of directly related experience. DOE Cognizant Systems Engineer qualification Work Environment: Work Location : The work location for this position has the potential for remote work. Remote work is defined as working offsite that is greater than 2 hours of the Laboratory location. Reporting onsite may be periodically necessary. All work locations are at the discretion of management. Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirementsfor access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information. HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations. 426.2A: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job. New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
