Job Information Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee. This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the Union. DEPARTMENT: Anchorage Health Department HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Lunch: 12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m. LOCATION: 825 L Street Anchorage, AK 99501 Remote work schedule opportunities (telecommuting) may be considered after successful completion of probation, at the discretion of management and with the approval of the department head. Not all positions are eligible for remote work (telecommuting) per P&P 40-40.Situational telecommute agreement for contagious illness/weather onlyEmployees who are hired or rehired to any position shall be placed at the entrance pay step, and advancement from the entrance step to the maximum step within a pay grade shall be by successive steps. Example of Duties Performs a full range of administrative duties to support the Aging and Disability Resources Center (ADRC). Duties include but are not limited to meeting and greeting guests of the ADRC, answering a multi-line phone system to include main incoming lines, directing callers, taking messages, assisting guests with general questions, various applications, and general resource assistance. Maintains and assists in the development of flyers, brochures, newsletters, website and resource lists as needed to enhance communication with the community. Provides clerical, project and special event support to the ADRC Team and the Program Manager. Attends staff meetings and prepare agendas for various meetings, assist in preparation of routine correspondence, ordering office supplies, maintaining filing systems, office machines, contacting vendors, maintaining supply cabinets, printer cartridges, papers, and other office and computer supplies. Prepares purchase orders and maintains procurement card. Performs other related duties as assigned. The Anchorage Health Department (AHD) engages in the State of Alaska Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) emergency responses and the federal Incident Command System (ICS). This includes training exercises as part of the AHD's Crisis Health Action Team (CHAT) and municipal Emergency Operations Center (EOC). In the case of a natural or manmade disaster AHD's employees may be called to engage in emergency operations responses and recovery. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and two (2) years of experience in office clerical work. OR Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems or similar discipline and experience in office clerical work. Ability to type at a net speed of 35 WPM. NOTE: In order to be considered, official certification of 35 WPM (current within the past one (1) year) MUST be attached to the application. Documentation or certification results must clearly indicate the applicant's name and date the test was taken. Employment is conditional based on a satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history. A Background Check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment. Military Service Interview Preference Veterans who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs, recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration. Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference, as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D, must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows the full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual's command organization, and shows the name, signature, title, and contact information of the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration. The Municipality of Anchorage is an Employer of National Service.
