Job Description Serve as administrative assistant to assigned faculty in the department. Assist faculty with travel arrangements, authorization, and voucher forms. Order supplies and equipment under the direction of assigned faculty and graduate students. Assist with planning for and conducting faculty searches. Participate in administrative staff meetings and administrative policy development and implementation. Learn and implement new university software and procedures involved in university travel and purchasing. Back-up and assist other administrative assistants with department accounting and faculty support. Required Qualifications Previous experience providing administrative support in a professional office environment; experience handling sensitive confidential information and documents; proficiency with office computer software such as Word, Excel, and Outlook; experience understanding, interpreting, and applying policies and procedures in a professional environment; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; capable of working and communicating with a diverse group of people; ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks; must be self-motivated, responsible and have strong communication and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifications Office management experience; working knowledge of university policies and procedures; experience working with databases such as, Banner, Chrome River, and/or HokieMart; experience supporting executive level staff in a complex academic environment; experience working with students; experience making travel arrangements and purchasing within the university systems.
