ABOUT Security and Law Enforcement Specialists (MAs) are dedicated professionals responsible for ensuring the safety and security of Navy personnel and assets. They engage in various security functions including antiterrorism measures, force protection, physical security, and law enforcement both on land and at sea. Their critical roles may involve conducting investigations, managing access points, operating patrol watercraft, and supervising specialized K9 teams. Responsibilities Conducting waterborne security patrols and interdiction missions. Performing U.S. Customs inspections and security patrols. Enforcing security protocols in aircraft and flightline operations. Conducting law enforcement operations and river security missions. Providing protective services for senior officials and dignitaries. Overseeing K9 teams for explosive and narcotics detection. Performing physical security inspections and investigating UCMJ violations. Organizing and training security force personnel. Operating brigs and managing crime prevention initiatives. What to Expect Assignments may vary widely and can include deployment on ships or duty in maritime security operations. Daily responsibilities depend on mission needs and can change frequently. Work Environment Throughout a 20-year career, specialists typically divide their time between fleet units and shore commands, spending about 60 percent in fleet operations and 40 percent at shore-based roles.
