This hybrid position is targeted at 10 to 12 hours per week (on average) of hands-on activities, educating and engaging volunteers in sustainable landcare, as well as some administrative and social media activities that can be performed flexibly. This role would be ideal for a passionate community-minded individual that wishes to make an impact through hands-on environmental work, volunteer leadership, youth engagement, social media, communications and administration. About ReWild Long Island ReWild Long Island is a volunteer-led nonprofit restoring biodiversity and building climate resilience — one yard, one school, one community at a time. We empower residents to replace chemical-heavy lawn care with native plants, organic gardens, and composting practices that protect our local waters and strengthen our neighborhoods. Our programs bring together youth, volunteers, and community partners to grow healthier ecosystems and more resilient communities across Long Island. Busiest season runs from May through September; some evenings and weekends required, especially in summer. 10 to 12 hour weekly average employment, paid bi-weekly. Pay commensurate with experience; no benefits. Mileage reimbursement provided for approved work-related travel. Supports ReWild’s South Fork Chapter to mobilize, educate and manage volunteers. This involves coordinating activities, chapter events, youth programming, and public outreach. This is a hands-on, community-facing role that blends environmental work, volunteer leadership, youth engagement, social media, communications, and administration. Summer focuses on coordinating adult and youth volunteers for composting, garden maintenance, and the ReWild South Fork Summer Program to Fight Hunger and Climate Change. The rest of the year focuses more on Long-Island-wide actions such as Earth Hour as well as local planning, outreach, chapter events/workshops, and keeping volunteers and partners connected. Reports to the Gardens Project Manager and works closely with South Fork Chapter leaders, youth organizers, and program staff. By helping maintain vibrant native and food-producing gardens, coordinating youth and volunteers, and lifting up chapter activities through events and publicity, the Coordinator strengthens local biodiversity, supports food security, and gives young people meaningful ways to take action close to home. When nature is tended, students feel welcome and supported, and community events are well organized and visible, more people experience firsthand that a different, healthier model of landscaping and land care is possible. The work of this Coordinator helps translate ReWild’s values into daily practice on the ground in the East Hampton area and across Long Island. What You Will Do (Key Responsibilities) Chapter Garden Meetings Assist Chapter Leads at volunteer gardening sessions at South Fork Chapter sites. Coordinate and direct volunteers on garden tasks such as planting, weeding, watering, mulching, and seasonal clean-ups. Track volunteer attendance and hours for garden workdays. Chapter Tabling & Special Events Represent ReWild at community tabling events: bring tabling materials, set up and break down, and engage visitors in conversation. Document photos, collect sign-ins, and capture basic information from interested volunteers and community members. Support chapter events beyond regular garden maintenance—such as garden tours, educational workshops, or special workdays—by assisting with planning, outreach, logistics, publicity, and on-the-day coverage. Help document attendance and volunteer hours at chapter events. Chapter & Program Publicity Add upcoming events and volunteer opportunities to the ReWild website, online calendar, volunteer management platform, and newsletter drafts. Support social media updates related to chapter activities (sharing photos, short write-ups, and calls to action). Assist with designing or drafting posts; familiarity with Canva and WhatsApp is strongly preferred for creating graphics and staying connected with youth and volunteers. Coordinate with ReWild leaders on programs involving compost, native plants, and work with local high school students so that events and opportunities are visible and clearly communicated. South Fork Summer Program Support Support the ReWild South Fork Summer Program to Fight Hunger and Climate Change by helping coordinate garden sites, schedules, and materials. Work alongside youth organizers, interns, and volunteers at program garden sites, providing guidance on tasks, teamwork, and basic garden skills. Assist in creating a positive, inclusive environment where local students can learn about native plants, organic gardening, food systems, biodiversity, and community service by growing produce for local food pantries. Help track attendance, hours, and basic program documentation for interns and volunteers. Administrative & Communication Tasks Maintain and organize chapter materials, volunteer lists, and basic records using Google Drive (Docs, Sheets, shared folders). Keep chapter calendars up to date with garden sessions, events, and program activities. Communicate regularly with the Gardens Project Manager, South Fork Chapter leads, ReWild leadership, youth organizers, and partner organizations to align activities and priorities. Help organize and store photos and basic documentation from events and programs so they can be used for reports, social media, and newsletters. Who We’re Looking For Must have a passion for sustainability, food systems, climate action, community building or environmental justice with demonstrated hands-on experience with activities such as gardening with native plants, permaculture and composting. Must live in or around East Hampton on Long Island, with a driver's license and own transportation to travel to sites on the South Fork. Must be reliable and punctual, with the ability to show up on time to project sites throughout East Hampton. Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with people of all backgrounds and abilities are a must. Prior experience working with youth (for example: camp counselor, mentor, tutor, teaching assistant, youth organizer, or similar role) would be desirable. Must have strong organizational skills and attention to detail; able to balance in-person fieldwork with online/admin tasks. Must be comfortable with basic online tools (email, docs, presentations) and willing to learn new skills. For example, familiarity with Google Workspace, openness to AI, and shared digital tools (e.g., shared folders, basic forms). Must be comfortable with basic gardening tools and safety precautions. Experience designing or assisting with social media posts is desirable; familiarity with Canva is a plus, along with comfort using WhatsApp. Spanish language skills are desirable.
