Job DutiesWinona County is accepting applications for this position until 4:00 p.m. March 18, 2026.This role provides essential accounting and fiscal support within the Finance Department, including payroll processing, leading the inventory process, grant accounting, billing and claims management, financial reporting, and budget coordination. The position also serves as a key resource for internal and external stakeholders, offering timely and accurate financial support. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, able to work independently while contributing effectively to team initiatives, and comfortable adapting to shifting priorities.This position starts at $28.79/hour (DOQ) with advancement up to $38.14/hour.Characteristics of Class:Under direction of the Finance Director, an employee in this class not only utilizes a high level of clerical and mathematical skills but may in addition have responsibility for a departmental program or unit involving complex fiscal record keeping. Individuals in the Accounting Support Assistant classification have specialized knowledge of accounting operations gained through formal post high-school training or considerable on-the-job instruction and training. Knowledge of and the ability to carry out administrative details are of prime importance. Work is carried out in an office setting.Examples of Duties:Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples listed in their relative order of importance include all the duties which may be found in positions in this class.Codes, verifies, and enters accounting transactions to the general ledger.Monitors expenditures, contracts, and grants according to state, federal, and county regulations, guidelines, and policies.Corrects or reconciles audit discrepancies.Processes payroll and ensures accuracy of all related documentation. Prepares, balances, and submits required payroll forms. Reconciles monthly employee withholding amounts and verifies that all remittances are completed accurately and on time. Reviews and reconciles various journals and ledgers on a monthly basis. Makes adjustments to journal entries as needed.Assists department head with preparation of budget and completion of audit.Completes reports that may be required for federal and state reimbursement.Gathers, compiles, and provides information to the public, employees, supervisors, and department heads concerning information tracked and maintained in the financial records.Collects and compiles information on the location, income, and assets of individuals with outstanding financial obligations.Contacts individuals with overdue accounts and assists in negotiating and resolving outstanding balances.
