Lifeguard I Responsible for the safety of pool guests and staff by means of competent and preventive lifeguarding and responsible for general maintenance duties within the facility area. Reports to the SHSAC Supervisor and under the general supervision of Lifeguard II and Lifeguard III. Works collaboratively within their own Department and with other City Departments, as well as with other organizations, to comply with policies and procedures of the City and the Salida Hot Spring Aquatic Center. The City of Salida retains the right to modify or change the essential and additional functions of the job at any time. Competently perform preventive lifeguarding. Actively attend to pool patrons to ensure their safety. Be attentive to the pool environment to ensure no hazards are present. Correctly respond to emergency situations. Promote positive public relations with patrons and staff. Ensure the safety of patrons and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies in a consistent and professional manner. Perform general maintenance duties, including cleaning of soaking pools, locker-rooms and deck areas, and washing and folding laundry. Attend and participate in all staff meetings and in-service training sessions. Other duties as assigned. Demonstrate above average swimming skills. Strong customer service skills (internal and external). Effectively communicate and problem-solve for positive outcomes with patrons and staff. Demonstrate decision-making skills. Possess knowledge of the pool's lifesaving and emergency equipment. Possess knowledge of SHSAC policies and procedures. Capable of receiving and implementing oral and written direction from supervisors. Demonstrate a courteous and friendly nature. Professional attitude and appearance. Represent Salida Parks & Recreation and the City of Salida in a positive manner. Current Lifeguard, First Aid, AED and CPR certifications. Ability to obtain Bloodborne Pathogens Certification within 3 months of employment. Must be able to work in a warm, humid indoor climate, standing for extended periods of time, exposure to chemically treated water, use of cleaning products, ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, Flexible time demands including days, evenings, and weekend work. Must be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Must be physically fit and be able to perform rescues as needed. Current staff are between $18-$18.80.
