VACANCY ANN#: STOI-26-017 TITLE: MAINTENANCE LEAD DEPARTMENT: FACILITIES SUPERVISOR: MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR LOCATION: WELLPINIT, WA STATUS: REGULAR FULL-TIME RATE OF PAY: $21.22 - $26.00 PER HOUR - DOE OPENING DATE: MARCH 4, 2026 CLOSING DATE: MARCH 18, 2026 INTRODUCTION: The Maintenance Lead reports directly to Maintenance Supervisor, and serves as a working lead within the Facilities Department. This position provides day-to-day leadership and coordination to the Maintenance Technicians while actively performing skilled maintenance work. The Maintenance Lead assists the Maintenance Supervisor in organizing, prioritizing, and monitoring daily maintenance activities, work orders, preventative maintenance programs, grounds operations, and emergency response tasks. While the Maintenance Supervisor retains overall supervisory and administrative authority, the Maintenance Lead is responsible for directing daily assignments, ensuring quality workmanship, promoting safety compliance, and maintaining efficient workflow across assigned facilities. This position plays a critical role in maintaining Spokane Tribe facilities, grounds, vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe, orderly, efficient, and visually appealing condition in support of Tribal operations and community services. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides daily leadership and direction to Maintenance Technicians. Reports to and follows the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and Tribal policies and procedures. Performs skilled maintenance work including carpentry repairs, minor electrical repairs, plumbing repairs, HVAC repairs, and general building system maintenance. Coordinates, prioritizes, and completes work orders within established timeframes. Oversees and participates in preventative maintenance programs. Monitors HVAC systems and reports deficiencies or operational concerns. Oversees grounds maintenance including mowing, pruning, landscaping, snow removal, deicing, and related duties. Operates electric, motorized, pneumatic, handheld, and battery-powered tools and equipment safely. Repairs, assembles, and moves furniture, appliances, cabinets, shelving, and other building components. Maintains assigned vehicles, tools, equipment, and facilities in safe operating condition. Assists with inventory tracking of tools, materials, and supplies. Prepares and maintains maintenance logs, inspection reports, work orders, and related documentation. Responds to emergency maintenance situations as needed. Ensures compliance with safety procedures, Tribal policies, and applicable standards. Communicates effectively with Tribal departments, contractors, and outside agencies. Attends meetings, trainings, and required seminars. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED FOR POSITION: Regular travel between Tribal buildings and sites. Exposure to indoor mechanical rooms, rooftops, grounds areas, and outdoor weather conditions. Moderate to loud noise levels when operating equipment or power tools. Occasional office work for reporting, documentation, and communication. May be required to respond outside normal working hours for emergencies. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, and climbing. Climbing ladders and working at heights. Repetitive tool use. Frequent lifting of objects over 50 pounds. Above-average agility and manual dexterity. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or GED. Must be at least 18 years of age. Minimum three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, construction, or related trades. Demonstrated working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and mechanical systems. Valid Driver's License with good driving record. Ability to supervise and coordinate daily staff activities. Ability to lift and carry objects over 50 pounds. Must successfully pass drug screening and criminal background check. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Five (5) or more years of facilities maintenance experience. Previous lead or supervisory experience. Experience with preventative maintenance scheduling. Experience using work order or maintenance tracking systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of Tribal policies and safety procedures.
