They are responsible for the implementation and execution of educational and support programs, the selection, and evaluation of building staff, the development and administration of the building budget including the requisitioning of necessary equipment and materials, the maintenance of the building, and the use of the building during and after school hours. The primary responsibility of the principal shall be the improvement of instruction and seeing that the building is thriving. Most of the principal's time shall be invested in curriculum and staff development through formal and informal activities, establishing clear lines of communication regarding the school's goals, accomplishments, practices and policies with teachers, parents, and the school community. The principal is a member of the Community Consolidated School District 89 management team. Therefore, the principal is responsible for district-wide functions assigned by the superintendent. Essential Duties (Other duties may be assigned.) Displays a cooperative and open-minded attitude in working with others in efforts of mutual concern. Demonstrates respect for the opinions, abilities, and contributions of others. Be the instructional leader of the building and responsible for the development and improvement of the educational program. The principal is responsible for the implementation of district curriculum. Promotes educational programs and activities which enhance the health, welfare and safety of students and staff. Provides the necessary in-service activities to maximize the effectiveness of the school staff and its educational programs Screens staff applications, interviews candidates for vacant positions, makes recommendations for employment to the superintendent, and assigns staff as needed to assist in the most effective and efficient implementation of the school's programs of instruction. Supervises all certificated staff, educational support staff, student teachers, and volunteers assigned to the building. Evaluates all staff assigned to the building based upon school district approved evaluation programs. Manages the school for the most effective and efficient operation. The principal is responsible for the planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating of all parts of the school operation. Establishes and promotes a positive building climate and is knowledgeable of the concerns of students, teachers and parents. Establishes rules of conduct for students within school district guidelines and assigns staff for the enforcement of such rules as is necessary. Communicates effectively with parents, school district staff, building staff and students. The principal is accessible to students, staff, parents and other members of the school community. Maintains good relationships with school-community organizations, e.g., parent groups. The principal must prepare and manage an annual budget within school district guidelines. Supervisory Responsibilities: This job has responsibilities for all certificated staff, educational support staff employees, student teachers, interns, volunteers working in the school as well as all students while in the classroom, on school grounds, during district transportation to and from school and during all before and after-school activities. Qualification Requirements: Completion of requirements for a Master's Degree; a doctorate degree is preferred. Must hold or be eligible for an Illinois Type 75 Administrative certificate. At least five years of experience as a preK-12 classroom teacher and/or school administrator. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communications Demonstrated excellence as an educational leader with strong organizational, problem-solving and human relations skills. Experience with collaborative groups and processes in a student-centered environment. Other qualifications of academic, professional, and personal excellence as the Board may specify. Skills Required: Ability to read, analyze and interpret documents and correspondence. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the school community. The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form. Ability to write reports as needed. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. Ability to complete mathematical operations and apply concepts of algebra, geometry, and statistics. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists Ability to perform essential duties within school district requirements and Board of Education policies. Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, talk, and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk, operate office and computer equipment; and reach with hands and arms and will repeat actions with the same hand, arm, or finger motion. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and the ability to adjust focus. In addition, the ability to withstand long-term use of computer monitors is required. The employee may occasionally lift up to 30 pounds. The position requires meeting deadlines with severe time constraints, interacting with the public and staff, irregular or extended work hours. The employee is responsible for safety, well-being, and work output of others. Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually low. However, on occasion, the noise level will be moderate. Work is usually conducted indoors. This work could be conducted at any school district location. Evaluation: Job performance is evaluated in accordance to district guidelines by the Superintendent. Salary and Benefits: Salary will be commensurate with experience. In addition to a competitive salary our Principals staff earn 12 sick days and 4 personal days each year, Board paid dental for the individual and 90% Board paid HMO/PPO insurance for the employee while 80% Board paid for Family, and Board paid life insurance in the amount of two times your annual salary up to $300,000.
