Position Summary: The Part Time Instructor of the Medical Assistant Program is part of the adult education team at Briya Public Charter School - a leading two-generation education program that primarily serves immigrant parents and their young children in Washington, D.C. Briya is a Tier One Public Charter School, consistently achieving the highest educational outcomes through its innovative programming. In the tuition-free Medical Assistant Program, students prepare for successful healthcare careers by gaining medical knowledge, clinical practice, and administrative skills in a collaborative environment. In addition, Briya coordinates students' internships and externships and prepares students to take the nationally recognized Registered Medical Assistant certification exam. Briya closely partners and co-locates with Mary's Center, a Federally Qualified Health Center, supporting students' comprehensive needs and allowing for crossover between clinic and classroom. This position description incorporates the core responsibilities of the job. It is recognized that other related duties not specifically mentioned might also be performed, and that not all listed responsibilities may be carried out, depending on operational needs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Schedule in-person: Part Time: 15 hours/week including 2 or 3 nights/week 5:30-9:00) The position may include, but is not limited to, the following tasks and responsibilities: Instruction: Prepare students to work competently and safely as Registered Medical Assistants Deliver quality instruction that fosters an inclusive, safe, scholarly, and collaborative learning climate through actions such as: Providing whole class, small group, pair, and individual instruction Circulating to ensure student engagement and understanding Differentiating instruction to meet learning needs for all students Reinforcing students' learning through a variety of appropriate student-centered activities. Facilitating engaging learning environment (including movement) Employ principles of Adult Learning Theory for content delivery Suitably challenge, engage, serve and communicate with students to encourage their participation and learning while maintaining mutual value and respect Teach students a variety of healthcare related topics through a Medical Assistant curriculum that includes, but is not limited to: Administrative tasks Legal concepts Finance Biology (Anatomy, physiology & pathology) Pharmacology Laboratory procedures Workforce readiness. Demonstrate and evaluate students in safe and competent medical assisting skills including, but not limited to: Vital signs Injections (IM, SubQ, ID) Medication administration (oral, inhaled, topical, otic, ophthalmic) Point-of-Care testing Infection control procedures inclusive of sterile practices EKGs Venipuncture Prepare students to to pass the Registered Medical Assistant certification exam and be effective medical assistants by periodically researching or referring to certification requirements and current trends in health care. Collaboration: Collaborate and meet with workforce colleagues to ensure general alignment of units and learning goals,, reflect on lessons, and share student progress or concerns Provide reflections and feedback of lessons to workforce colleagues following individual lessons and completed modules Contribute to building a positive team spirit, putting success of the team above own interests, supporting everyone’s efforts to succeed, working well in multidisciplinary team setting. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of healthcare industry and awareness of trends and evidence-based practice. QualificationsEducation and/or Experience- Bachelor’s degree Preference given for current professional RMA (Registered Medical Assistant)/ CMA (Certified Medical Assistant), LPN, LVN, RN, MD, or DO licensure. Commitment to teach in ways that are interactive, project-based, and promote self-discovery and critical thinking. Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to work as a member of a team Commitment to develop and contribute to a community of educators. At least 1 year of related practical work/clinical experience Must be knowledgeable in skill content, as evidenced by education and/or experience, Knowledge of healthcare industry and awareness of trends. Strong organizational skills. Expertise interpersonal and oral presentation/written communication skills. Physical Demands—Regularly required to stand; frequently required to reach with hands and arms, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear; must be able to lift objects up to twenty-five (25) pounds. Work Environment—Mostly in a typical classroom setting with a quiet to moderate noise level.
