About this opportunity: As Head Lifeguard at Camp Hoblitzelle, you'll provide leadership and day-to-day oversight for aquatic programming while ensuring a safe, engaging environment for campers and staff. This role combines active supervision with team leadership, offering hands-on experience in responsibility, communication, and servant leadership. You'll support a team of lifeguard staff, uphold safety and operation protocols, provides management of the physical operations of the waterfront and pool facilities, and assist in delivering high-quality pool and waterfront activities that prioritize camper well-being. Through positive leadership and collaboration, you'll help create meaningful moments that contribute to a fun, safe, and well-rounded camp experience. Key Responsibilities: Provides leadership, supervision, and positive role modeling to lifeguard staff and campers, ensuring a safe and supportive aquatic environment. Plans, coordinates, and oversees daily lifeguard schedules to ensure appropriate coverage of all aquatic activities, including adherence to required break times. Upholds and enforces camp rules, safety procedures, and health regulations at the pool and waterfront in accordance with certified lifeguarding standards and camp policies. Maintains active surveillance and effective pool management practices; responds promptly to emergencies by administering first aid and lifesaving assistance when needed. Supports the maintenance of safe and clean aquatic facilities, including routine pool care, equipment checks, and monitoring chemical balance in collaboration with camp leadership. Models and reinforces appropriate camper behavior using approved communication and discipline techniques, promoting respectful participation and engagement. Encourages camper involvement in aquatic activities and supports a positive, inclusive experience that enhances overall camp programming. Actively participates in all-camp activities, special events, and evening programs, supporting the broader camp community as a team member. Demonstrates and promotes Camp Hoblitzelle's Christian values through daily interactions, contributing to the spiritual growth and faith-based culture of the camp. Ensures the safety, accountability, and well-being of campers during all assigned activities and promptly reports incidents or concerns following camp procedures. Must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate or GED preferred. A heart for others and a mind towards Christ. Should be self-motivated and teachable. Ability to build and maintain effective mentor relationships with peers, those in supervision and campers. Education and Experience Two years of experience in monitoring and coordinating waterfront/swimming activities preferred. OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications: Lifeguard training from a nationally recognized body or Swim Instructor Certification from a nationally recognized certifying body. Instruction or Instructor Trainer rating from a nationally recognized boating or watercraft organization, or equivalent certification. If operating a motorized watercraft, have a Valid State Driver's License and completed a boat safety course. C.P.R. and First Aid Certification. A willingness to abide by The Salvation Army doctrinal statement and Camp Hoblitzelle's policies. Must be able to pass a state and federal background check. Additional Information: Camp Leadership Staff Training will be held June 3 - June 7, 2026 with all Staff Training held June 8 - June 14, 2026, and participation is required.
