Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens is hiring a Volunteer Engagement Team Lead! The Volunteer Engagement Team Lead assists in all facets of volunteer management, including recruitment, placement, training, maintenance, and recognition. All volunteer engagement team lead assignments will support Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens' mission and operations. This position fosters an inclusive environment among the volunteers and plays a supportive role in introducing volunteers to the Gardens, overseeing organizational efforts to ensure volunteers are welcome and valued within the organization. This is a Seasonal (End of April-October), Part-time (16-24 hours per week) position. $20.00-21.00 hourly, non-exempt Some flexibility in scheduling is required. Will need to work 1-2 weekend days per week and occasional evening events. Primary Functions: Assist in developing and executing orientation and training programs for volunteers. Learn and manage computer-based strategies for supporting and managing volunteers. Assists with volunteer training in all aspects of the volunteer software tool. Provide updated daily and weekly volunteer schedules for select volunteer areas and updates to volunteers. The Volunteer Team Lead monitors the needed "fill shifts" and contacts volunteers when necessary. Trained to fill in and work volunteer shifts when necessary. Provide coverage for volunteer responsibilities if openings arise, including but not limited to driving a shuttle, conducting a Highlights tour, conducting an Accessible Cart Tours, being a butterfly house docent, a bridge ambassador, or a troll ambassador, and any other volunteer position where necessary. Assist with planning and execution of volunteer incentives, recognitions, and events. Provide excellent guest experience. Assist guests with questions and any unmet needs. Log volunteer hours and pertinent volunteer information in Volunteer software program. Provide assistance across the Guest Experience department (admissions, phones), as needed. Participates in Gardens-wide initiatives including Gardens Aglow assignments which may include inside and outside light installations and assignments to be determined, as needed. Physical Requirements: Based in an office setting, this position does require moving throughout the Gardens frequently in all kinds of weather-hot and cold, across some unimproved trails of varying difficulty. May require standing for long periods of time. Requires use of telephone, radio, and computer equipment. Application review will begin March 18, 2026. RequirementsOutgoing personality, solid organizational skills, a love for people, plants, and the outdoors. Proficient use of software including Microsoft Office and database management platforms. Ability to prioritize and make effective decisions under pressure. Some knowledge of gardening and local history and geography is desirable. Must maintain a current driver's license and the ability to learn and drive a 15-passenger shuttle. Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to communicate proficiently in English. Comfortable interacting with guests, volunteers, board members, and community. Possess a teamwork orientation that supports and uplifts a work environment. A desire to learn more about the Gardens.
