Salary: $15.00 - $24.44 Hourly Location : Bartow, FL Job Type: Seasonal Job Number: 202500129 Department: Parks, Recreation & Cultural Arts Opening Date: 03/11/2026 Closing Date: 4/13/2026 8:00 AM Eastern Job Summary Skilled work in the operation of light and heavy school buses in transporting students to and from Summer Camp locations to Field Trip Locations APPLICANTS MUST BE AVAILABLE TO ATTEND PAID PRE-CAMP TRANING SESSIONS AND WORK THE FULL (8) WEEK SESSION Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Transports students to and from Camps/Field Trips • Regulates heating equipment and ventilation of bus for comfort of passengers. • Drives bus carefully and in compliance with traffic regulations. • Assumes responsibility for the safety of children in loading, unloading and transporting them to and from locations. • Instructs children in safety precautions and practices. • Inspects and sweeps bus. Checks water, gas, oil and mechanical condition before leaving on run. • Keeps operational records and makes simple reports. • Reports defects or problems with vehicle to shop supervisor. • Assures bus meets regular maintenance schedules. • Performs related work as required. Supervisory Responsibilities:None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities • Knowledge of traffic and highway safety rules and regulations, and of the precautions necessary to avoid accidents. • Ability to operate a bus in a safe and economical manner. • Ability to understand and carry out instructions and to perform work requiring good physical condition. • Ability to relate to students, parents and school system personnel. Ability to complete various forms and records, including updated route sheets, time sheets, field trip forms, incident and accident reports, etc. Education and Experience:Highschool diploma, GED, or equivalent; at least 5 years of verifiable driving experience; great driving record with no DUI conviction in the past 15 years; Complete lifetime driving history from any state in which you held a driver's license. In Polk County you may go to the nearest courthouse branch office and obtain a certified Florida driving record. Licenses, Certifications, Special Requirements:• Valid State of Florida Class B CDL Driver License with Passenger Endorsement and School Bus Endorsement. • Copy of Social Security card with same last name on both. • First Aid/ CPR Certification • Ability to pass a DOT physical examination and drug screening.
