Position Overview: The School Building Registered Nurse (RN) - SY is responsible for providing direct medical care and treatment of students. They provide early detection of physical problems and health evaluations. Responsible for disease prevention. The School Nurse will assist in promoting programs on health education and immunization. Responsibilities: Student & Staff Health Care Provide first aid care and health assessment for students or staff Support staff when waiting for 911 Perform essential nursing procedures such as bolus feeds, catheter care, and similar short-duration tasks requiring clinical expertise. Responsible for skilled nursing care for all students in the building, including bolus feeds, catheters, etc., when the IEP team has determined a 1:1 is not appropriate Write IHPs and coordinate the care of students with chronic or acute health conditions (Seizure, DM, sickle cell, asthma, food allergies) Administer medications and monitor designated staff medication administration Emergency meds, daily meds, DM, seizure etc. Participate in 504's, ETRs, and IEPs for students who require nursing care Communicable disease monitoring Perform other duties as assigned; such as but not limited to, providing back-up medical assistance for students when needed; working with other students in the classroom as appropriate; assisting with assessments, entering and maintaining immunization records and vision and hearing screening Supervision & Collaboration Supervise any LPNs working in the school/building Communicate with teachers and staff to ensure the safety and well-being of students Collaboration with Audio, SLP on hearing screenings Health Education & Program Support Support return demonstrations for Safe Schools training Health education Assist families in accessing health insurance and health care services Screenings & Documentation Coordinate and assist with state-mandated screenings (May include vision, hearing, BMI, immunizations required for school attendance screenings) Complete daily student encounters/documentation Technology & Communication Monitor daily work email and maintain requested records of service managed by CPS Additional assignments or requests for information must be provided to CPS within forty-eight (48) hours, either by phone or email Should a school close on any regularly assigned school day, nursing personnel will maintain remote services under the guidance of the school principal and the district School Health Manager Qualifications: Valid Ohio Registerd Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Pupil Services Registration (5-Year) or the abiltiy to apply Ability to pass an FBI and BCI background check CPR and First Aid certification required. Knowledge of state and federal health regulations related to school health services.
