Operate a broad range of heavy and light equipment (dump trucks, backhoe/loader, excavators, sweepers, graders, paving equipment, tractors, compressors, power tools, etc.)Perform a variety of street construction and maintenance tasks including patching, paving, crack sealing, asphalt work, striping, Right-of-Way (ROW) upkeep, and seasonal street projects.Perform construction of sidewalks, curb, and gutter pans and ADA compliant crosswalk ramps according to engineered drawings. Support general Public Works operations through building maintenance, janitorial tasks, weed abatement, vector control, and inventory duties. Support emergency response during severe weather or public safety events.  Complete required logs and reports, follow all safety practices, and participate in safety activities and team discussions. Help diagnose equipment issues and assist with repairs or preventive maintenance on vehicles and heavy equipment. Assist the Water, Wastewater, or Building divisions as needed.  Perform other related duties as may be required or assigned.  Where You'll WorkThis is an outdoor, active role ideal for someone who enjoys hands‑on, physical work. You may work in and around confined spaces and trench excavations necessary to pipeline construction and repair projects.  Required Qualifications  Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.Must be able to effectively communicate, in both written and verbal forms, at levels necessary to the needs of the Department, the City, and the Public in areas of street operations and building maintenance.Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Departmental managers, supervisors, employees, City boards, other agency staff, and the general public.Must be knowledgeable with computer data processing skills necessary for the operation and record keeping programs for the City.Must be able to carry and lift a minimum of 90 pounds.Must be able to climb in and out of heavy equipment, ascend and descend stairs and ladders safely, and accessing/working in excavated utility ditches. Must be able to pass a physical exam as required by OR-OSHA to wear respirator. High school diploma (or equivalent).  Preferred (but not required) Qualifications Two (2) years of general construction experience or two (2) years of street operations. Two (2) years of experience in street operationsKnowledge of safety rules and regulations established by State, Federal and local jurisdictions as relates and applies to street, water, and wastewater utilities operations and maintenance.Developed skills in the operation of construction equipment necessary to this job.Additional training in construction safety practices complying with state and federal regulations and construction standards policy of the American Public Works Association (APWA) with regards to street system maintenance.Oral Spanish language proficiency.  Certifications and/or LicensesA valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Tanker (N) endorsement is preferred, but not required.  Want to Learn More?Meet the Hiring Manager during our information session!
