Job Description

The Village of Roselle, Illinois (22,897) seeks a full-time Mechanic within the Public Works Department. The position performs skilled mechanical journey level work in the maintenance and repair of automotive, construction, and other Village fleet, equipment and related devices. This position requires the ability to diagnose issues, analyze malfunctions, determine methods of repair, and strategically inspect, repair, rebuild, and maintain a variety of Village vehicles and equipment. What You'll Do: Vehicle & Equipment Maintenance and Repair: Diagnoses, inspects, repairs, and overhauls Village vehicles and equipment, including engines, brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrain, HVAC, electrical, fuel, ignition, and cooling systems. Performs preventive maintenance such as tuning engines, replacing belts and hoses, servicing emission controls, checking fluid levels, and lubricating equipment. Field Operations & Public Work Support: Operates Village equipment during emergencies and seasonal operations such as snow and ice control, material loading, hauling, and responding to emergency calls. Maintains service vehicles and auxiliary equipment and ensures readiness for emergencies and operational needs. Safety, Diagnose & Maintenance Standards: Adheres to all department, Village safety policies, and safe work practices. What We're Looking For: Our ideal candidate has: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Valid driver's license with a CDL endorsement, or the ability to obtain a CDL within (6) months (CDL training will be provided at no cost to the candidate through the Village's training program). At least (3) years of automotive, mechanical or small engine maintenance or successful completion of various specialized diagnostic and repair course or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience. Desired possession of relevant Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications, Ford STARS certifications and/or Emergency Vehicle Technician certification (as issued or recognized by ASE and/or NFPA), or receipt of within twelve months of commencing employment or transfer into position. What We Offer The salary range is $72,987 to 98,027 and the starting salary is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
