Position Overview The Film, Cinema & Drama Department at Shoreline College is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable Stage Technology Instructor to teach in our Stage Technology Certificate Program. The ideal candidate will have professional experience and teaching ability in lighting, set, and sound design for theatrical productions. This position offers an exciting opportunity to mentor emerging theater artists and technicians in a hands-on, collaborative environment that values creativity, inclusion, and practical skill development. Additional opportunities may be available for designing and building shows for the theatrical season. Responsibilities Teach courses in stage lighting, set construction and design, and sound technology for live theatrical productions. Supervise and guide students in lab and production environments. Collaborate with faculty and staff on department productions and curriculum development. Maintain a safe and organized technical theater workspace. Support student learning outcomes and ensure equitable, inclusive classroom practices. QualificationsRequired Education & Experience Master's Degree in Theatre, Technical Theatre, Design or closely related discipline Experience teaching in higher education (college-level) 3 years of experience in set design & build or light design & build Ability to teach foundational and practical skills to beginning-level college students Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), and other appropriate instructional technology Current industry-standard equipment and software (e.g., ETC lighting consoles, QLab, Vectorworks, etc.) Skill in Mentoring student crews in educational or community theatre settings Imparting excitement and enthusiasm into teaching Fostering a climate of equity and belonging through awareness and responsiveness Adapting to a variety of teaching situations with students from diverse backgrounds & abilities Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, administrators and others of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds. Conditions of Employment Physical Work Environment: The College has both on-campus and online programs, with the option for some assignments to completed in an online environment based on program or area needs. For remote (online) instruction, faculty will need to provide their own workspace and internet access, noting the College will provide technical equipment and support for online work needs. For on-campus in-person instruction, work is usually performed in a classroom, office, and theatre space that requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. Faculty typically use computers and media equipment in the work environment as well as discipline specific instruments and technology. Terms of Employment/Salary: This is a part-time, non-tenured, quarter-to-quarter assignment. Salary is dependent upon the number of contact hours for this assignment as provided in the agreement with the Shoreline College Federation of Teachers.
