Company Description Hadron Energy is at the forefront of Micro Modular Reactor (MMR) innovation, dedicated to research, design, and development in the San Francisco Bay Area. As the premier developer of MMRs, we focus on creating factory-produced, transportable microreactors that deliver 24/7 carbon-free energy to data centers, government facilities, industrial sites, and remote communities. Our mission is to pave the way for a sustainable, healthier, and more equitable energy future. Component Design & Structural Analysis Engineer - Role Overview This full-time position for a Component Design & Structural Analysis Engineer allows for candidates to work onsite in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, or remotely. We're looking for passionate individuals with robust mechanical design and structural modeling expertise, eager to contribute to the development of advanced, safety-critical components for groundbreaking nuclear systems. As a Component Design & Structural Analysis Engineer, you will take charge of the intricate mechanical design and structural evaluation of reactor components, subsystems, and support structures for Hadron Energy's micro modular reactor (MMR). You'll collaborate closely with various teams, including reactor design, materials, thermal-hydraulics, manufacturing, and licensing, ensuring that all components comply with stringent functional, safety, and regulatory standards. Your role is essential in transforming conceptual designs into manufacturable, high-performance components using advanced simulation tools and engineering methodologies, propelling Hadron's reactor design towards commercial viability. Key Responsibilities Lead the mechanical design, modeling, and drafting of reactor components and assemblies. Execute structural, thermal-mechanical, and vibration analyses through finite element analysis (FEA) tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL. Assess component performance across varying operational conditions, including normal operations, transients, accidents, seismic events, and extreme loading situations. Create and maintain engineering drawings, design specifications, and technical documentation per ASME Section III and relevant codes. Collaborate with thermal-hydraulics, materials, and safety engineers, integrating multi-disciplinary requirements into component design. Support component verification and validation testing, including prototyping and mechanical test activities. Conduct design optimization studies with a focus on manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness. Work closely with manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams to ensure compliance with fabrication, inspection, and regulatory guidelines. Prepare technical reports, analysis summaries, and documentation for internal reviews and NRC licensing submissions. Engage in hazard analyses, design reviews, and risk mitigation strategies. Stay informed on best practices in structural analysis, advanced materials, and nuclear system design. Qualifications & Skills Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or related fields. A minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design and structural analysis, ideally within nuclear, aerospace, defense, or high-reliability sectors. Proficiency in FEA tools such as ANSYS, Abaqus, or COMSOL. Strong grasp of ASME Section III, pressure boundary design, materials behavior, and structural mechanics. Proven experience evaluating components under thermal, seismic, and dynamic loads. Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Inventor) and PDM/PLM systems. Insight into materials, welding, fabrication processes, and component qualification practices. Exceptional analytical, technical writing, and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams. A keen attention to detail, rigorous documentation practices, and a commitment to engineering excellence. A genuine passion for clean energy, advanced technology, and the design of components that enable safe, scalable nuclear power.
