Position Type: Student Support Services/School Nurse Date Posted: 2/10/2026 Location: Sherrard Senior High Date Available: 07/29/2026 Sherrard CommunityUnit School District #200 500.03 AR ADMINISTRATIVE RULE - JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: School Nurse QUALIFICATIONS: A registered nurse who holds an Illinois State Board of Education School Services Personnel Certificate (Type 73) with a school nurse endorsement as defined in Section 10-22.23 of the Illinois School Code. Evidence of initiative, ingenuity, loyalty and willingness to cooperate. REPORTS TO: Superintendent/Building Administrators JOB GOAL: Primary aim of the health program is to assist each child to achieve their maximum potential and to maintain optimal health; thereby becoming an active participant in a health oriented society. The function of the school nurse is to utilize in collaboration with others, her knowledge of nursing to contribute to the achievement of full health and educational potential for each child. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide for emergency care of injuries and sudden illness which may occur in the schools in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures. Administer/monitor administration of medication to students as prescribed by students' health care providers. Maintain documentation of medication administration to student. Prepare/initiate student accident reports/school injury insurance forms. Assist in establishing health care policies and interpret them to students, staff, and parents. Determine the health status of each child, maintain cumulative health records on each child; including school health examinations and immunization records. Prepares and submits health reports for the Superintendent to the Illinois State Board of Education. Coordinate vision and hearing screening programs, make necessary referrals and complete follow-up. Serve as liaison between parent, school, medical personnel, and community agencies. Assist in the classroom as a resource person, guest speaker, or member of a panel discussion group. Actively participates as a member of the pupil personnel services team to assist in developing the best educational plan for each child. Offer health counseling for the child, parents, school personnel, and families. Provide resource material to interested persons. Assist in the education of pupils, parents and teachers to promote positive health maintenance and in the use of community resources to continue optimal health. Observe students on a regular basis to detect possible or potential health problems. Participate in in service programs if requested. Perform other duties as assigned. Complete health histories on students referred for case studies. Complete social histories on students referred for complete case studies. Assist in control procedures for communicable diseases. Maintain medical supplies in each building. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Work year to be established annually by the Board of Education. COMPENSATION: To be set annually by the Board of Education. EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent of Schools.
