Description: This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Labor and Delivery. The unit has a total of 34 beds for Labor and Delivery. There are 2 operating room suites dedicated to C-sections. The unit has 2 triage beds and 14 postpartum beds. On average, there are 150-180 births per month. In the previous year, the unit handled 2,133 deliveries. The nurse-to-patient ratio follows AWHONN guidelines of 1:2 for Labor and Delivery and 1:3-4 for couplets. RNs are required to titrate drips such as Magnesium, Pitocin, and Insulin. There is a charge nurse on the shift; they do not take an assignment. A surgical tech is available onsite 24/7. Each shift includes a patient care assistant with clerical duties. An obstetrician-hospitalist and neonatal nurse practitioner are available in-house 24/7. An OB anesthesia provider is also available 24/7. The unit is equipped with respiratory therapy equipment, including vents, CPAP, and BiPAP. There are monitor techs assigned to the unit. RNs are required to read their own strips using Centricity-perinatal EFM system. The scheduling system allows for block scheduling upon request. Weekend availability is required every other weekend. Rotating holiday coverage is part of the role. When placed on standby, response time must be within 45 minutes. The role requires functioning in both Labor and Delivery and postpartum care with routine competencies. Travelers should be open to adapting to workflows and feedback provided. The manager emphasizes the importance of quality work and provides constructive feedback. Floating to NICU is not required, but there may be some floating within the department. Scrubs will be provided, and a locker is available. The orientation consists of an 8-hour compliance day and additional shifts for unit-specific training.
