About the Job Warehouse Safety AssistantLocation: Liverpool, NY Status: Full-Time Pay Rate: $19-$21 per hour The Rescue Mission is seeking a dedicated Warehouse Safety Assistant to join our Distribution Center team in Liverpool, NY. This position plays a vital role in fostering a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace for employees, volunteers, and community partners. Working under the direction of the Director of Safety & Facilities, the Safety Assistant helps develop, implement, and maintain safety programs and procedures that support our organization-wide commitment to a safety-first culture. Key Responsibilities:Safety Leadership & Training:Lead and support organizational safety initiatives, including chairing the local Safety Committee. Develop and deliver safety-related training for staff and volunteers. Collaborate with the facilities team and serve as a liaison for safety concerns and initiatives. Inspections & Compliance:Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly safety walkthroughs to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken. Inspect warehouse equipment and machinery; report maintenance needs or damage promptly. Maintain familiarity with OSHA standards and support compliance efforts. Track Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) corrective and preventive action plans. Coordinate and schedule emergency response drills, working with local authorities as needed. Records Management:Maintain inspection and compliance documentation for regulatory agencies including DOH, HHAP, OTDA, and Onondaga County for Shelter and Crossroads facilities. Manage and organize facility documentation such as blueprints, CAD files, owner's manuals, and repair history. Oversee vehicle records, DMV paperwork, and maintenance schedules. Operational Support:Assist with alarm systems, badge access, and monitoring. Participate in the emergency on-call rotation to support after-hours facility needs. Promote a culture of safety by modeling and enforcing established policies and procedures. Maintain reliable in-person attendance. Qualifications:High school diploma or GED preferred. At least 1 year of experience in Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) or a Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred. Warehouse or retail experience is a plus. Valid New York State Driver's License required. Local travel for inspections and audits as needed. Strong organizational and multitasking skills with the ability to work independently.
