Requirements New York State Certification in Special Education New York State Certification in Early Childhood Education or N-6 (for Day Care and UPK Teachers) Meet all additional NY State Certification requirements Must be fingerprinted, or willing to be fingerprinted, by the Board of Education and the Department of Investigation Must be registered on the TEACH website Certified completion of Domestic Violence and Child Abuse courses Pre-employment Physical Exam (within one year) with proof of required immunizations (PPD, MMR, TDAP, Varicella) Summary Under general direction, the Teacher is responsible for conducting educational classes for special education preschool and school-age students or Early Intervention, Universal Pre-Kindergarten (UPK), or Day Care programs. Instruction must follow the needs of the students and comply with the regulations and requirements of applicable governmental and regulatory agencies. The Teacher serves as the team leader and supervises Teacher Assistants assigned to the classroom. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Plan and conduct classes and activities adapted to the needs of students. Assess students and prepare IFSP/IEPs while implementing and evaluating short and long-term goals. Participate in student transition activities, evaluations, and intake processes. Provide annual educational assessments and evaluations in all educational domains. Prepare lesson plans and adapt classroom materials, equipment, and environment to meet student needs. Maintain student records and prepare required progress and evaluation reports. Ensure services are delivered with respect for student dignity, privacy, and confidentiality. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, annual reviews, parent meetings, and special review committees. Supervise Teacher Assistants including training, evaluations, and disciplinary recommendations. Obtain approval and purchase classroom equipment and materials as needed. Assist students with toileting, feeding, positioning, and transportation when required. Assist students during arrival and departure and support classroom routines. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development as required. Communicate with parents regarding student progress and program development. Assist with curriculum development and provide supervision and training to student teachers. Perform other related duties as requested.
