Displays strong knowledge of legal process and operational matters in areas of responsibility. Shows ability to identify opportunities for collaboration both within the department and with external business units Assign and supervise outside trial counsel, under the direction of Managing Counsel. Assist with management of all civil litigation, including Small Claims, Class Actions and Arbitrations involving client. Analyze legal and factual issues relating to civil litigation and make internal assessment of potential exposure to client, including determining potential for early settlement of claims. Assist outside counsel with requests for information, records and documents related to litigation claims. Coordinate witnesses to testify on behalf of client at depositions, hearings, and trials. Assist with discovery responses, subpoenas, and related items. Review pleadings, motions and aid and direction to outside counsel. Maintain reports, records, schedules, and calendar for litigation matters. Confer and develop strategy with supervising counsel to proactively resolve litigation. Strong negotiation skills to settle lawsuits with outside counsel. Provide legal support with respect to consumer related issues. Coordinate responses from legal department in response to Independent Auditors (PWC) and Treasury compliance requests for litigation updates. Research legal topics as assigned by supervising counsel to support various business projects and policy changes. Develop and maintain reporting to Sr. Mgmt. regarding litigation matters and spot trends; work with the compliance dept. and other members of legal staff to develop policies, procedures, and training as needed. Support Reports - Reserves; NMLS; respond to client; Consumer Products queries re: lawsuits based on credit reporting; repossessions; insurance products; dealer misconduct. Make recommendations to business management regarding settlement or other resolution of accounts in litigation. Make recommendations to business management regarding handling and responding to subpoenas. Overview: The client Legal Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Senior Paralegal with 5 to 8 years of experience providing legal Litigation support. The primary responsibility of this role is to work with the Litigation Team to support cases and litigation issues along with the subpoena process as needed. This position will report to National Manager. Work with internal and external counsel to prepare and review litigation documents as appropriate (pleadings, motions, discovery requests, etc.) Organize and/or maintain schedules and calendaring of deadlines, depositions, litigation holds, and other case related matters. Review and interpret the incoming summons and subpoenas and obtain relevant information and documents to respond timely to the requests while working under the supervision of legal counsel.
