Job PurposeThe Visual Arts Intern supports the 'Ōlino Arts Pathway by helping with creative projects, youth programs, and visual documentation that celebrate Hawaiian culture and community storytelling. This internship offers hands-on experience in visual arts while supporting culturally grounded education and youth involvement at the Lili'uokalani Center.Learning ObjectivesDevelop and strengthen an active personal art practice while understanding how the visual arts support community storytelling and education.Gain hands-on experience supporting culturally grounded youth programming within a Hawaiian-serving organization.Build skills in visual documentation, creative project support, and artistic collaboration.Increase understanding of Native Hawaiian cultural practices and how they influence artistic expression and community engagement.Enhance communication, reflection, and professional skills through mentorship, teamwork, and project participation.Essential ResponsibilitiesAssist with visual arts projects connected to youth programs, workshops, and community eventsSupport documentation of programs and activities through photography, video, drawing, design, or other visual mediaHelp prepare art materials, supplies, and creative spaces for youth-facing activitiesContribute to creative planning sessions and share ideas related to visual storytelling and artmakingMaintain organization of digital and physical art files, materials, and project resourcesShadow and support staff and teaching artists to learn workflows within the 'Ōlino Arts PathwayParticipate in team meetings, reflections, and learning activities related to art, culture, and communityOther DutiesAdheres to internship program guidelines and supports department needs as assigned. Completes a variety of tasks that provide broad exposure to departmental workflows. Actively builds new skills, strengthens existing abilities, and applies learning to real-world projects and responsibilities.QualificationsActively engaged in a personal art practice in any medium (e.g., drawing, painting, digital art, photography, sculpture, mixed media, or other visual arts)Interest in visual arts, creative expression, and community-based storytellingExperience in Native Hawaiian cultural practices, education, and/or youth programming is a plusWillingness to learn, collaborate, and take initiative in a supportive, team-based environmentAbility to follow guidance, accept feedback, and apply learning to creative projectsBasic comfort with computers and common software (365, Word, Adobe Suite, or similar tools)Interest in learning and contributing to LT's missionWork Schedule & LocationEstimated timeframe: June-July 2026Weekly schedule: 35-40 hours per weekLocation: Onsite / Lili'uokalani Center 932 Ward Ave Honolulu,HI 96814Job Competencies Aloha: awareness and approach to the work with compassion, empathy, and kindness.
