The ideal candidate will be an innovative educator who collaborates with teachers and staff to integrate technology and media resources into the curriculum and cultivates a welcoming, student-centered learning environmentPRIMARY FUNCTION: The Media Specialist supports student learning and instructional programs by managing media resources, facilitating access to technology and digital tools, and collaborating with staff to enhance educational experiences in alignment with district policies and initiatives.ESSENTIAL DUTIESManage and Support the Media ProgramCollaborate with the Media Committee to plan, implement, and evaluate the media program in alignment with district policies.Recommend and enforce media center policies and procedures; ensure all users are informed and adhere to them.Supervise media center staff and coordinate scheduling to optimize resource access.Maintain circulation and retrieval systems; promote equitable access to media resources for all students and staff.Keep accurate and current catalogs, inventories, and financial records consistent with district guidelines.Facilitate communication with faculty regarding media services and resources to support curriculum goals.Maintain a safe, welcoming media center environment and support systems aligned with district technology plans. Develop and Maintain the Media CollectionEvaluate and select media materials in accordance with district selection policies, collaborating with committees to ensure alignment with curriculum and student needs.Order, process, catalog, and arrange new materials, ensuring they meet age-appropriateness and diversity standards outlined by the district.Conduct regular collection inspections and weeding to maintain collection and relevance.Prioritize materials that support new and existing courses, programs, and school/district initiatives.Facilitate Instructional Support and ServicesCollaborate with teachers and staff to integrate media resources into instruction and provide information literacy education.Assist students and staff in locating, selecting, and using media materials and technology effectively.Provide guidance on copyright compliance and intellectual freedom, following district procedures for addressing challenged materials respectfully and according to policy.Support the production and use of instructional media and conduct professional development on media literacy and resources. (on appropriate PD days or through Media Experience Modeling)Assemble and distribute materials for classroom projects and initiatives.Serves as the TomeCon Sponsor for Colquitt County High School, organizing and facilitating student participation in TomeCon to expose students to literacy, creativity, and career pathways in writing, publishing, and digital media.Promotes student engagement through opportunities to showcase original work, collaborate with peers, and connect learning to real-world experiences beyond the classroom.Support Media Maker Space and District InitiativesWork with teachers, administrators, and technicians to promote and facilitate use of the Media Maker Space in support of instructional goals.Implement flexible scheduling to support reading initiatives and media experiences, maximizing student and staff access.Support District Chromebook Program and Digital LiteracyManage the Chromebook checkout/check-in process following district protocols, accurately logging device and user information in Destiny.Coordinate with technicians, administrators, and bookkeeping staff to monitor repair tickets, track device status, and communicate updates regarding student devices and loaners via Frontline Help Desk Management system.Ensure proper assignment and tracking of loaner devices while original devices are repaired, maintaining accountability per district procedures.Promote responsible Chromebook use and digital literacy among students and staff, supporting district digital learning goals.Collaborate with instructional staff to integrate digital production tools into classroom activities effectively.Maintain accurate records of Chromebook circulation and support technology staff in asset management.Provide training and troubleshooting assistance to reduce disruptions and enhance program success.Coordinate and organize devices for State, Access and AP testing.School Communications & Digital Presence ManagementServes as the primary manager and maintainer of the school website and social media platforms, ensuring all content is accurate, current, and aligned with district expectations.Coordinates and publishes digital promotions (announcements, events, achievements, and recognitions) across school platforms, including the website and social media.Ensures timely and consistent communication to students, staff, parents, and community stakeholders regarding school events, updates, and important information.Collaborates with administration, teachers, and sponsors to gather, verify, and disseminate information for school-wide visibility.Maintains a consistent brand and messaging that reflects the school's mission, culture, and initiatives (e.g., Packer PRIDE).Monitors engagement and effectiveness of digital communication tools, making adjustments to improve reach and clarity.Serves as a central point of coordination for school communications to ensure messaging is streamlined, accurate, and proactive rather than reactive.OTHERComply with district policies, procedures, and applicable laws related to copyright, intellectual property, and technology usage.Complies with school, system, state, and federal regulations and policies, including the PSC Code of Ethics, HB250, and HB1321 related to job requirements.Adheres to the chain of command.Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and material.Maintains a professional appearance as appropriate for job responsibilities.When interacting with the public, act professionally and maintain a professional attitude, following school and system policies regarding students and records.Other Duties as AssignedPHYSICAL DEMANDS:Routine physical activities are associated with a classroom teacher. This position requires extensive sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, lifting, and repetitive fine motor activities as part of daily activities. Vision, hearing, and verbal communication are essential functions of this position.Ability to carry 30-50 pounds with assistanceAbility to push or pull a maximum of 50 poundsMaintain a consistent and reliable presence at work. Regular attendance is crucial for providing stable and effective support throughout the academic year.Effectively supervise and ensure the safety of students during emergencies.The employee must perform each essential function satisfactorily.
