Job Title: Controls Engineer Job Description The Controls Engineer is a key technical leader supporting multi-site manufacturing operations through capital projects, automation upgrades, and controls system standardization. This role leads PLC/HMI design, electrical controls integration, vendor coordination, and system commissioning while providing hands-on troubleshooting and technical mentorship. The position plays a critical role in modernizing legacy control systems, improving reliability and safety, and driving continuous improvement across multiple North American manufacturing sites. Travel of approximately 20-30% is required. Responsibilities * Lead PLC programming and integration using Rockwell Automation platforms. * Develop HMI systems using FactoryTalk View and PanelBuilder32. * Migrate legacy PLC/HMI systems to modern architectures like Studio 5000. * Design electrical controls, system architecture, and standardization. * Manage drive systems including PowerFlex AC drives, DC drives, motors, and servos. * Provide controls engineering leadership for multi-site capital projects. * Develop electrical/control specifications and cost estimates. * Evaluate, select, and integrate vendors. * Support commissioning, startup, and system validation. * Troubleshoot advanced issues with PLCs, HMIs, drives, sensors, and instrumentation. * Provide hands-on support for maintenance and plant engineering teams. * Manage control system security and backups using Rockwell AssetCentre. * Create and maintain electrical schematics and controls documentation. * Use AutoCAD for electrical drawings and version control. * Develop and enforce corporate automation standards. * Develop and deliver technical training for maintenance and engineers. * Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, engineering, and EHS teams. Essential Skills * 10+ years of manufacturing engineering experience. * Proficiency in PLC programming and automation systems. * Experience with RSLogix5, RSLogix500, RSLogix5000 / Studio 5000. * Expertise in Rockwell PLC & HMI. * Experience in capital project ownership (CapEx $3M-$10M). * Ability to independently troubleshoot complex automation systems. * Strong electrical schematic design and documentation skills. Additional Skills & Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology. * Experience with Ultraware security and authorization systems. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mebane, NC. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $68.00/hr.
