Job Title: WelderJob DescriptionAs a Structural Steel Welder, you will be responsible for welding and fabricating structural steel components in a shop environment. This role is crucial in supporting the production of beams, columns, connections, and miscellaneous steel assemblies according to detailed fabrication drawings and welding specifications.Responsibilities Review fabrication drawings, work orders, weld symbols, and welding procedures prior to starting work. Set up welding equipment, verify materials, and confirm joint fit-up and alignment. Perform structural welds on carbon steel components using MIG and flux-cored welding processes in multiple positions. Control weld penetration, bead profile, and heat input to prevent distortion. Clean welds, remove slag, and perform basic grinding or touch-up as required. Self-inspect completed welds for quality, appearance, and compliance with specifications. Coordinate with fitters, supervisors, and quality personnel to resolve fit-up or weld issues. Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and hot-work practices. Prepare completed assemblies for inspection, coating, or shipment. Utilize wire-fab guns, torches, grinders, and magnetic drills. Essential Skills Hands-on experience welding structural carbon steel components. Ability to perform welds in multiple positions (flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead). Consistent control of bead profile, penetration, and fusion. Understanding of how weld quality directly impacts structural integrity. Ability to produce repeatable, code-compliant welds in a production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications 1+ year of recent welding experience. Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and weld symbols. Understanding joint types, weld sizes, and connection details. Comfort following written work instructions and welding procedures. The role is based in a non-climate-controlled fabrication/welder shop, and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toed boots, hard hats, glasses, and gloves is required. A weld test is also required, which involves using Hobart 777 weld wire with mixed gas. Tools needed include a tape measure, square, and weld gauges, while a hammer can be provided if needed.
