Scion Nonprofit Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist for a growing, mission-driven youth development nonprofit organization. This is an onsite role based in Detroit, MI. POSITION OVERVIEW: The Accounts Payable & Payroll Specialist is a newly created, high-impact role designed to support organizational growth and strengthen financial operations. This position bridges day-to-day accounting functions with higher-level financial analysis, working closely with the CFO. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, analytical, and excited to contribute to a mission-driven organization supporting youth development. PERKS: • Competitive compensation with strong temp-to-hire potential • Opportunity to join a growing nonprofit making a measurable impact in youth development • High-visibility role with direct exposure to executive leadership • Collaborative and inclusive team environment with mission-driven work • Stable full-time schedule with employer-provided equipment RESPONSIBILITIES: • Manage accounts payable processes including invoices, payments, and documentation • Support payroll coordination, including timesheet review and reporting • Assist with grant and program budget tracking, reporting, and compliance • Analyze financial data and support budget vs. actual reporting for programs • Maintain accurate and secure financial and organizational records • Communicate regularly with leadership on financial workflows and updates QUALIFICATIONS: • Experience supporting or improving financial operations, reporting, and budgeting • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and accountability • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets (e.g., pivot tables, data analysis) • Experience working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment • Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial information to non-financial teams COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: This role offers $31-$36/hour, depending on experience and qualifications. This is a temporary position with strong potential for full-time conversion, with additional benefits available upon conversion.
