Oversees daily operations to ensure the provision of safe, reliable and efficient transportation services. Duties include hiring, supervising, and evaluating Bus Drivers, substitutes, Driver Trainers, Bus Paraprofessionals, Vehicle Mechanics, and office support staff; developing and implementing bus routes; developing and monitoring the department budget, capital reserve and inventory; preparing and maintaining required reports. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Listed below are the essential tasks performed to achieve the purpose of this job. Job Tasks Descriptions Frequency % of time Recruits and recommends for employment transportation personnel; supervises and evaluates drivers, mechanics and other transportation personnel. D 20% Develop, implement, and monitor safe, efficient, and cost effective bus routes based on changing needs. D 25% Evaluate and resolve of all day-to-day problems, questions, and complaints regarding routes, field trips, discipline, vehicle repairs, and emergencies. D 20% Monitors all required records for drivers, maintenance, student information, route and mileage records. Q 5% Develop and monitor department budget. Initiate requisitions for department purchases. A 5% Keeps informed and monitors compliance with all laws and regulations concerning transportation, drivers license requirements, drug and alcohol testing, etc. A 5% Controls and guides acquisition of replacement parts and transportation supplies. Q 5% Anticipate future needs and develop specifications for vehicle and equipment purchases. A 5% Creates and submits annual transportation reports as required (CDE40, Oct. Count, etc.) A 2.5% Develop orientation and training for employees. Q 5% Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. M 2.5% TOTAL= 100% EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE: * High school diploma or equivalent. * Minimum of one to three years experience working in transportation services or fleet maintenance. * Experience with and knowledge of bus driving, student management, fleet maintenance, and special needs equipment. * Must be computer literate, with a reasonable degree of efficiency in typing, working knowledge of office procedures and operation of office equipment and machines. TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: * First Aid and CPR certifications, required within 30 days of employment. * Supervisory experience to include problem solving assistance, scheduling and assigning work, training, performance reviews and disciplinary actions. * Excellent communication skills. * Ability to adapt to changing conditions such as personnel call outs, changes in activity/athletic trips and work well under pressure. LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS, OR CERTIFICATIONS: * Requires a valid Colorado driver's license: Yes * CDL license and P&S endorsement, preferred MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT OPERATING KNOWLEDGE: Pre-trip/Post-trip and operating school buses of different sizes and different fuels. Operation of fuel pumps of different types. Knowledge or ability to learn technology used in school bus transportation such as GPS, route tablets and scanners.
