Job Description

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. These services provided are direct and have a significant impact in other organizational units' ability to provide patient support. The incumbent's ability to identify and implement methods for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of performing these services and the liaison role the incumbent plays affect the overall operational services to the patients, families, and community. * Plans and coordinates work to be accomplished by sub-areas CT scan, ultrasound, and MRI. Sets and adjust short-term and long-term priorities and prepares schedules for goals on completion of assigned tasks. * Assigns work based on priorities, consideration of difficulty and requirements of assignments, and capabilities of employees. * Evaluates and directs work performance of subordinates. Supervises daily operations of clerical and technical staff. * Decides on training needs and submits training requests on behalf of the employees to the Radiology Manager and Radiology Service Chief for approval. Evaluate technical imaging contractors work to ensure quality and standards compliance. * Oversees work of general radiologic technologists, CT scan technologists, MRI technologists, ultrasound technologists, and technology students. Makes decisions on work problems presented by Radiology Manager and Service Chief. * Provides advice, counsel, or instruction to employees on both clinical and administrative matters. * Follows established Quality Assurance (QA) guidelines and protocols to ensure integrity, availability, authenticity and confidentiality of imaging data transmitted by the various modalities. Monitors Powerscribe voice transcription and PACS system. Monitors incomplete report list throughout the day. * Participates in the preparation of in-service or continuing education programs of the technical and clerical staff. * Demonstrates new techniques on all new equipment installed in the service with strict adherence to the safe operation of the equipment and safety for the patient. * Responsible for the formulation of plans and scheduled work assignments to minimize overtime costs. Analyzes work requirements and staff resources in order to accomplish assignments. * Resolves staff complaints within his/her realm of responsibility. Answers inquiries regarding patients and patient care with the area of responsibility and training. * Serves as the Service Chief/Diagnostic Radiology Manager's liaison with Engineering to ensure existing equipment is maintained at all times. * Sets performance standards for technical staff. * Responsible for orderly flow of patients through the Service. * Maintains administrative records of staff personnel as required. * Assures supplies are available in all imaging modalities. * Assists in data retrieving and compiling of data for the Quality Assurance/Improvement Program. * Responsible for Quality Assurance, including but not limited to: - Match outside films with VA films and submit for dictation. - File and tracking of outside films for comparison. Ensure required information is entered into the mammography database and is in concurrence with the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA).
