Job Description

Shift: Saturday and Sunday 6a-6p, and Thursday night shift 6p-6aAssembles both invasive and non-invasive ventilator equipment; prepares patient and equipment for therapy; evaluates therapy based upon patient response and laboratory results; modifies equipment settings as necessary. Assures proper precautions while providing therapy and/or performing tests; makes oxygen rounds and titrates oxygen per protocol, checks medical orders; takes relevant patient history; checks patient's vital signs. Formulates individual care plans, continually assesses and interprets data in order to evaluate therapy/consultations. Establishes appropriate goals for ordered therapy or consult with the physician to modify goals or therapy. Recommends appropriate therapy. Maintains Basic Cardiac Life Support and CEU requirements. Completes and passes skill proficiency testing annually. Maintains professional growth and development by attending hospital and department meetings, utilizing professional journals, developing professional goals. Provide in-service teaching on newly purchased equipment. Performs and evaluates respiratory therapy to provide to patients; instructs patients and significant others relative to respiratory therapy procedures and equipment use; administers aerosol respiratory Supervision Received Direct supervision is received from the Respiratory Care Manager. Supervision Exercised Direct No direct supervision is exercised. Functional Functional supervision of registry-eligible therapists, respiratory technicians, and students. May function as charge person. Equipment & Software Use General office equipment is used throughout the organization including personal computers, MS office software, copiers, fax machines, and telephones. QUALIFICATIONS medications; assembles equipment, administers treatments, interprets and chart results, and consults with appropriate health care professionals of results for therapies comprised of but not limited to postural drainage, volume expansion, oxygen therapy, and nebulizer treatments.Performs cardiopulmonary tests comprised of but not limited to EKG, vital capacity, peak flow measurements, pulmonary functions, cardiopulmonary stress testing, sleep desaturation studies, arterial blood gas draws, sputum induction, weaning parameters. Evaluates and charts results, and consults with appropriate health care professionals.
