Founded in 1970, East Valley Community Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) who's services include providing personalized, affordable, high-quality medical, dental, vision and behavioral health care through a community-based network within the East San Gabriel Valley and Pomona Communities. MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS: * Support the coordination of clinical back-office operations to maintain efficient workflow and optimize patient flow. * Work collaboratively with the front desk team to maintain effective patient coordination. * Provides chair-side assistance to the dentist in the performance of dental procedures according to the Dental Board of California's Allowable Duties of Dental Auxiliaries. * Takes radiographs as directed and ordered by dentists (only assistants who have completed courses on radiation safety). * Prepare, sterilize, and organize dental supply and dental equipment according to Cal/OSHA and Clinic Standards across all sites. * Ensure policies and procedures are established and developed in accordance with Cal/OSHA, federal, state, and local guidelines. * Ensure back-office auxiliary staff are following policies and procedures, Cal/OSHA, federal, state, and local guidelines. * Supervision of dental auxiliary staff. * Train new dental assistants. * Ensure new dental assistants demonstrate required competencies before performing tasks independently. * Communicate dental auxiliary performance concerns the Dental Director. * Develop housekeeping and back-office forms and tools. * Ensure housekeeping tasks are completed timely across all sites. * Ensure housekeeping records are kept across all sites. * Assist in the monitoring and maintenance of radiation safety procedures and protocols. * Order and maintain inventories of dental clinic supplies by working with the Purchasing Department. * Interact with and process dental clinic patients. * Create and maintain dental records in accordance with established protocol and procedures. * Draft patient letters assigned and directed by the Dental Director. * Format and word process correspondences, reports, forms, etc., including proofreading and editing. * Assist with planning and implementation of meetings. * Print patients' dental records per Authorization for the Release of Dental Records. * Assist in monthly reporting and quality improvement activities, such as the dental appointment statistics. * Monitor and process dental assistants' timesheets and time off requests. * Maintains dental assistants' schedules. * Maintains filing system. * Assists other departments with work processing when required. * Reports to work as scheduled consistently and on time. * Performs other duties as assigned by the Dental Director. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: * Certificate from accredited dental assistant program, if applicable. * High school diploma or equivalent. * Successful completion of California Board of Dental Examiners-approved radiation safety course. * Proof of completion of a board-approved 8-hour infection control course (Approved Infection Control Courses) * 1-2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified preferred. * Current CPR certification. * Current and Active RDA license in good standing, if applicable. * Completion of 8-hour Infection Control and Law as required by the California Dental Boards, if applicable. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills. * Excellent team player. * Type 60 words per minute. * Knowledge of all current Windows based programs. * Ability to work under pressure without extensive supervision. * Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL/MENTAL ABILITIES AND PROCESS: * Work requires extended periods of sitting, turning, twisting, reaching, speaking, hearing, seeing and ability to articulate clearly, use of hands to finger, reaching with hands and arms, typing, and working in front of a computer. * Ability to work efficiently in a busy office. * Ability to work productively in a small office space used by multiple employees. * Ability to work efficiently without direct supervision. * Ability to relate well with patients and exercise good customer service skills on the phone and in person. * Fine finger movements and manipulation of dental instruments. * Travel to and from clinic or meeting sites within geographic service area.
