Min Hourly Rate $15.05 (Standard); $14.05 (Non-Urban); $16.30 (Portland Metro) Max Hourly Rate $21.50 (Standard); $19.50 (Non-Urban); $22.00 (Portland Metro) Position Summary This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Enhanced Biosecurity Planner for the Animal & Rangeland Sciences Extension at Oregon State University (OSU). Student technical assistants will support, with moderate independence, Oregon State University's role in a USDA-funded NADPRP project by assisting in the development of Secure Beef and Milk Supply Plans for Oregon cattle producers. Interns will gain applied experience in livestock biosecurity, stakeholder engagement, and Extension-based program delivery while contributing to the project goal of producing at least 30 enhanced biosecurity plans. In this position, students learn and build vital career-readiness skills in the primary areas below: Communication, Teamwork, Professionalism, Technology Position Duties * 20% Training related to federal and state guidelines related to Secure Beef/Milk Supply Plans for the Continuity of Business * 50% Coordinate with cattle operations to conduct the process to complete state Secure Beef/Milk Supply Plans * 20% answer questions about Secure Beef/Milk Supply Plans * 10% Organize physical and electronic materials for the project. Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here: * Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study * Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment * Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard * High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program * Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term * Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term* * Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term * Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term* * International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Knowledge of biosecurity best management practices on cattle operations. Enrolled in a degree program related to animal science, veterinary medicine, or related field of study. Preferred (Special) Qualifications * Bachelor of Science in Animal Science or related field of study * GIS Skills (i.e., ArcMap, Google Earth Pro) * Experienced working on a cattle ranch and/or dairy * Previously worked with cattle ranchers and/or dairy farmers Working Conditions / Work Schedule Working conditions will primarily be in an office setting working with information collected from cattle producers on their operations. The individual will be required to visit cattle facilities and complete information in the Secure Beef/Milk Supply Plan documents. While work will primarily take place within the traditional work week, it may include overnight stays and/or travel outside traditional hours on weekends.
