Department OPH - Bureau of Infection Disease Job Summary Job Description * Responsible for tracking the causes and consequences of infectious diseases for the Bureau of Infectious Disease (BID). * Conducts surveillance activities to detect cases, identify trends, and institute appropriate intervention and follow-up control measures. * Supports Regional Epidemiologist on all epidemiologic activities conducted in assigned region. * Completes disease case reports in assigned regions. * Establishes rapport with local hospital infection control staff. * Leads appropriate institution of follow-up activities for specific diseases at both the state and local levels. * Monitors parish health units and hospitals conducting surveillance activities via electronic reporting within assigned regions and provides feedback on data quality. * Analyzes and interprets infectious disease surveillance data for trends and clusters at local/regional level, to support disease prevention and control implementation, and prepares summary reports for state and national databases. * Conducts data entry in current surveillance systems, including REDCap, the statewide Infectious Disease Reporting Information System (IDRIS), and any other databases used. * Coordinates and collaborates with physicians and health care providers to enhance disease surveillance activities in the areas of case identification, disease reporting, and assures complete and accurate case reporting information. * Prepares and maintains confidential case records, collects, documents and verifies pertinent medical data from patients, physicians, and medical facilities. * Participates in conducting infectious disease outbreak investigation in collaboration with the Regional strike team, the Regional Epidemiologist, Regional Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Coordinator, and Regional Rapid Response Teams under the guidance of the Infectious Disease Epidemiology Section. * Conducts interviews of persons diagnosed or suspected of having a reportable infectious disease and identifies susceptible contacts for medical referral/ follow-up and provides disease education/counseling as necessary * Serves as a resource to the general public and health care community by responding to routine requests for general disease information and provision of statistics. * Prepares articles for publication in the Louisiana Morbidity Report and the Epidemiology Annual Summary Report. * Provides and disseminates health education to communities-at-risk regarding infectious disease prevention and transmission. * Other tasks as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: * Bachelor's Degree, or Associates degree with 3 years professional experience, or 6 years professional experience in lieu of the degree. * Minimum 1 year professional experience in disease intervention and prevention activities. * Excellent analytical skills, effective organizational and time management skills. * Great attention to detail and follow up. * Ability to manage projects, assignments, and competing priorities. * Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel. DESIRED: * Advanced degree. * Minimum 2 years professional experience performing administrative functions within an office of healthcare field. * Minimum 2 years professional experience with data analysis, data abstractions, or case reports/review. * Minimum 2 years professional experience preparing, creating, and maintaining reports. * Relevant industry certifications.
