Medical TechnologistFull-Time Jones Memorial Hospital - Wellsville, NYOverview:The Medical Technologist plays a critical role in supporting accurate diagnosis and effective treatment by providing timely, reliable laboratory test results. This position is responsible for performing a wide range of laboratory procedures-including specimen collection, clinical testing, quality control, and equipment maintenance-while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Through a combination of technical expertise, sound judgment, and attention to detail, the Medical Technologist contributes directly to patient care outcomes and the overall quality of laboratory services.Key Responsibilities:Collects and processes blood specimens using approved phlebotomy techniquesPerforms chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological testing using approved methodologiesLabels, processes, and reports test results accurately and in a timely mannerCommunicates abnormal findings promptly to appropriate clinical personnelMaintains quality control and participates in proficiency testingPerforms calibrations, routine maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory analyzersMay perform advanced test procedures and assist in method developmentOrients new staff and students to laboratory procedures and standardsMay assume Lead Technologist responsibilities in their absenceParticipates in rotating on-call coverage and may be assigned to alternative shifts as neededProvides age-appropriate care in accordance with training and competenciesCompletes required continuing education (12 hours annually) and maintains professional certificationQualifications:Education:Bachelor's degree (BS or BA) in Medical Technology or a related field requiredCurrent New York State license and registration as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist requiredNational certification (ASCP or equivalent) preferredExperience:Minimum of six (6) months of relevant laboratory experience preferredSkills & Abilities:Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracyAbility to exercise sound judgment and manage workflow independently, often under time-sensitive or stressful conditionsEffective interpersonal and communication skills for working with patients, clinicians, and interdisciplinary teamsProficiency with laboratory instrumentation and computer systems used for test processing and result reportingWorking Conditions & Physical Demands:Daily use of laboratory equipment including analyzers in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, and blood gas testingRoutine use of computers for data entry and results documentationFrequent standing, walking, and sitting; occasional light to moderate liftingClose visual attention for extended periodsExposure to blood and potentially infectious materialsOccasional exposure to unpleasant sights, sounds, or odors associated with patient contactParticipation in public outreach (e.g., health fairs, tours, or educational talks) may be requiredSign-On Bonus of up to $20,000Eligible for Student Loan Repayment Program
