Position Overview The Professional Counselor I, under general supervision, provides personal, academic, career, and alcohol and other drug counseling to individuals and groups. The counselor also delivers crisis intervention services and participates in an after‑hours on‑call rotation. The Professional Counselor engages in a full range of counseling‑related responsibilities, including maintaining accurate and confidential records, administering and interpreting psychological assessments, making appropriate referrals, and managing the organizational and administrative components of assigned cases. This role requires sound clinical judgment, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to respond effectively to urgent and crisis situations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Counseling Services * Provides personal counseling and crisis intervention to individuals, couples, and groups. * Provides academic, career, alcohol, and other drug counseling to individuals and groups. * Engages in counseling related activities including maintaining counseling records, administering interpreting psychological tests/inventories, making referrals, and managing organizational/administrative aspects of counseling cases. Training & Supervision * Assists in the oversight and guidance of the daily activities of assigned counseling practicum students. * Co facilitates case supervision and educational training for counseling practicum students. Community & Campus Collaboration * Assists with establishing and collaborating with community partnerships on and off campus. * Assists with managing career counseling programming and collaboration with career counseling partnerships on and off campus. Outreach, Prevention & Education * Responds to requests for information about counseling services, programs, organizational structure, and policies. * Assists with the design and coordination of psychoeducation and wellness activities. * Provides presentations to students, faculty, and staff regarding counseling services, programs, professional development, and wellness topics. * Assists in the oversight of outreach efforts, including developing materials for educational and training programs on mental health and wellness. * Occasionally available for evening presentations or special events. Crisis Response * Provides after hours crisis intervention on an on-call rotation basis. * Serves as an expert consultation resource. * Consults with students, faculty, and staff members about students needing counseling services. Research & Administrative Support * Engages in applied research and evaluation activities; publishes/disseminates results. * Assists with organizational and administrative tasks as requested. * Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications * Education - Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance, Social Work, Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or related specialty. * Experience - Practical/field placement relevant to college counseling or supervised experience. Required Licenses and Certifications * Passed the National Counselor Exam (NCE) * Eligible for LPC‑Associate, LPC, LMFT, LMSW, or LCSW * Must maintain licensure for continued employment Preferred Qualifications * Two or more years of post‑graduate clinical experience in a university or college counseling center * Experience providing crisis intervention and participating in after‑hours/on‑call rotations * Experience working with wide-ranging student populations, including first‑generation students, veterans, and historically underrepresented groups * Experience conducting outreach, psychoeducation, and wellness programming Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities * Clinical competency in multicultural counseling * Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others * Adherence to ethical principles and state laws Other Requirements Other Requirements and Factors * This position is security sensitive * This position will require export-control authorization prior to starting employment. * This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures * All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements * This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends Why Join the Javelina Nation?
