Saint Anselm College, a private, liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking a Resident Director. Reporting to an Area Coordinator and/or the Director of Residential Life and Education, the Resident Director is a live-in, 10-month professional staff position, with duties coordinated by the Director of Residential Life and Education. This person will be responsible for the overall operation of a residence hall/area of up to 300 undergraduate residents including supervision of 8-10 undergraduate resident assistants, Resident Hall Council, and front desk staff. Subscribing to the professional standards and philosophy of the student affairs division and representing the Office of the Dean of Students and the Department of Residential Life and Education, this person will serve as a behavior model, offering supervision to resident assistants, and assistance and direction to students of the assigned hall(s). Typical duties include: opening/closing halls; hall program management; facilities management; disciplinary interventions; counseling and referrals; staff training, selection, and supervision; and interpretation and enforcement of college rules, policies and procedures in conjunction with the college's judicial system. Serves in an on-call rotation of professional staff responding to emergency and crisis situations.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:Residential Operations & Building ManagementManaging the physical integrity of assigned area, responsive to address and resolve facility issues, such as needed repairs, maintenance, or renovations; identify and resolve recurrent student issues including but not limited to trash, security, damage/vandalism)Demonstrate active communication with supervisor and main office regarding building management.Assure accurate recordkeeping and responsiveness to expedite resolution of student/building issuesSupervises in-hall assignments and room changesConduct regular walk-throughs of area to forge positive relations with custodians, students, and do first-hand checks on building integrity and needed repairsAssist to manage/resolve student concerns, including but not limited to roommates, facilities/work orders, campus resource needs, etc.Residential Education & Community DevelopmentKnowledgeable as to the requirements and application of the programming model and the educational philosophy and goals of the departmentActs as liaison between the student affairs professional staff, the resident assistants, and resident studentsSupervises residence hall activities and programs and is responsible for the organization and co-leadership of the student development programming for the Residential First Year Experience programAssists in the management of the Honors Housing and Substance Free Housing programsServe as a Conduct Hearing Officer for Community Standards and Student ConductAttends major hall sponsored eventsDemonstrate a holistic and working knowledge of campus resources and effectively promote them through programming efforts, student interactions, and marketingOn Call SupportUnderstand in practice the College's Emergency Management Plan, specifically related to this role, the RLE response and report structureParticipation in the Professional Staff Member (PSM) on-call rotationProjects and Committees Coordinate at least two departmental projects per semester. These projects include but are not limited to operational housing projects such as room assignments/selection, RA training/selection, and faculty-engaged cocurricular collaborationsServe as a Residential Life representative on at least one division of Student Development and Mission committeeOther duties and responsibilities as assigned, based on the needs of the division of Student Development and Mission, the Office of Residential Life and Education, and the professional interests of the RDSupervisory Responsibilities: The Resident Director will supervise 8-10 undergraduate Resident Assistants, Resident Hall Council, and front desk staff.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's DegreePrior experience in a residence life positionDemonstrates an understanding of and commitment to student development, safety, diversity and social justiceFamiliarity and respect of the traditions of a Catholic higher education. Excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and interpersonal skillsCapable of working in a high-energy, high-traffic areaProficient with Microsoft Office applications, web design and management, and other database applicationsAbility to work days, with nightly on-call duty as scheduled in all types of weather conditions.Basic knowledge of counseling, conflict management, and crisis intervention strategiesPreferred QualificationsMaster's Degree in student personnel or a related field is preferred.
