Job Description

The Eastern Oklahoma VA Healthcare System seeks a Medical Supply Technician (Sterile Processing) - RME Coordinator for the Sterile Processing Service. This role supports the decontamination, preparation, sterilization, disinfection, and distribution of reusable medical devices (RMD). The technician follows SOPs to ensure proper handling and meets VHA standards, contributing to the health and safety of our veterans. Tulsa (James Mountain Inhofe VAMC) - Rewards of a Allied Health Professional * Decontaminates, prepares, sterilizes, disinfects, and distributes reusable medical devices (RMD); tracks RMD in the instrument tracking program and documents quality assurance processes * Provides decontamination, preparation, disinfection, sterilization, distribution, and inventory management for the medical center * Works collaboratively with other MSTs and ensures work completion, quality assurance, and adherence to procedures, reviewing and assessing completed work * Possesses advanced knowledge of RMD, reprocessing equipment, processes, and quality assurance measures; performs tasks independently with minimal guidance * Assists in training, instructing, and orienting new or inexperienced personnel; conducts competency assessments * Reviews the work of others for quality assurance and assists management with oversight and support of the RMD program * Responsible for orientation, education, and training of the RMD program for internal and external customers and coworkers * Demonstrates knowledge of Sterile Processing goals and the role of a quality management system in a successful RMD program * Assists in policy and procedure review and development, ensuring compliance with facility and SPS policies, SOPs, CATs, MIFUs, and record management * Collects and provides data for quality improvement benchmarks and collaborates with internal and external customers to ensure professional standards and performance improvement measures are applied * Develops, reviews, and implements disaster plans and downtime procedures for the RMD program * Monitors and audits MSTs to ensure adherence to quality assurance measures and procedures; audits completed work * Manages disinfection and sterilization records and provides SPS management with weekly and monthly quality assurance compliance reports * Communicates, arranges, schedules, and tracks maintenance, repair, and replacement of RMD and reprocessing equipment; manages the water quality assurance program * Monitors RMD reprocessing, storage, and soiled areas for compliance with inventory management and environmental controls (cleanliness, temperature, humidity) * Assists in data collection for RMD committee members and agenda * Communicates both orally and in writing; utilizes universal precautions to prevent cross-contamination * Uses medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, microbiology, and medical procedures to assemble RMDs * Proficient in the application of decontamination, preparation, disinfection, sterilization processes, and equipment; tracks processes in the instrument tracking system (Censitrac) * Understands and applies quality assurance principles related to RMDs and reprocessing equipment * Reads, interprets, and applies written instructions and procedures; selects appropriate actions and instructs staff on correct procedures and protocols * Analyzes and evaluates facts related to unsatisfactory conditions or trends; applies methods and techniques to investigate and recommend corrective actions on complex quality problems * Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software programs * Promotes appropriate interpersonal relationships with internal and external customers and coworkers; interacts, reports, and resolves problems as they arise * Other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child. Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
