Positions radiologic equipment and adjusts controls to set exposure time and distance according to the specifications of the examination. Takes x-rays following established radiologic requirements and regulations to ensure patient care and safety. Retrieves radiologic orders from and inputs related data into the electronic medical record. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Escorts patients to the dressing and x-ray rooms, provides verbal and/or written instructions, and assists patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed. Explains procedures to patients to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation. Positions patients on the examining table and adjusts positioning devices to obtain optimum views of specified areas of the body requested. Operates specialized equipment according to protocols under limited physician supervision. Provides patient care within a broad range of health care needs. Moves radiograph equipment into specified positions and adjusts controls to set graphic exposure factors, such as time and distance, based on knowledge of radiographic exposure techniques and protocols. Practices radiation protection techniques using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills, and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation exposure. Obtains acceptable radiologic images using CR/DR techniques and protocols. Ensures operation of radiology equipment by completing preventative maintenance requirements, following manufacturer's instructions, troubleshooting malfunctions, maintaining equipment inventories, and evaluating new equipment and techniques. Reports equipment malfunctions to a supervisor or manager. Maintains examination rooms and stocks necessary medical and radiologic supplies. Adheres to infection control policies and protocols; follows drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs; and administers first aid using emergency protocols. Supports department goals through personal improvements and educational activities; attends mandatory in-services and meets educational standards; modifies behaviors or performance to comply with care standards; aids in collection of statistics and presents findings for process improvement. Maintains professional standards in conjunction with practice standards recommended by relevant societies. Assists with monitoring the patient's level of moderate sedation in conjunction with procedures and clinical states. Assures informed consent has been obtained from the patient prior to the start of the procedure and all questions and concerns have been addressed. Participates in the Universal Protocol for all invasive procedures and performs appropriate patient care in a sterile environment under the guidance of physician or assistant. Exhibits independent judgment in planning sequences of operations and making minor decisions. Works directly with patients and/or customers, both face-to-face and via telephone. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals and staff.
