Head Wrestling Coach - Hannibal High School/Hannibal Pirates Position Type: Coaching Location: Hannibal High School - Hannibal Position Overview Hannibal Pirates is seeking a driven, experienced, and high-character Head Wrestling Coach to lead and continue building a highly competitive high school wrestling program. This position requires a strong leader who can oversee all aspects of the program while maintaining a culture of excellence, discipline, and respect. The Hannibal wrestling program is committed to competing at a high level within Missouri while developing student-athletes into responsible, resilient young adults. Student-athlete safety is the top priority, and the Head Coach must demonstrate an unwavering commitment to safe practices, proper technique, and athlete well-being. Primary Responsibilities Program Leadership & Competitive Excellence Lead and manage all levels of the wrestling program (varsity and junior varsity) Build and sustain a highly competitive program Develop and implement a well-rounded training plan focused on technique, strength, conditioning, and mental toughness Establish a culture of accountability, discipline, and pride consistent with Hannibal Pirate athletics Student-Athlete Safety Ensure a safe environment in all practices, training sessions, and competitions Teach and enforce proper wrestling techniques and injury prevention strategies Monitor athlete health, including safe and compliant weight management practices Collaborate with athletic trainers and administration on injury care and return-to-play decisions Maintain full compliance with all regulations set by the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Coaching & Athlete Development Plan and conduct effective, high-level practices and match preparation Develop wrestlers of all skill levels-from beginners to state-level competitors Emphasize academic success, character development, and leadership Serve as a positive role model and mentor for all student-athletes Staff Leadership Recruit and lead assistant coaches and volunteers Promote a unified, professional coaching staff aligned with program goals Provide mentorship and development opportunities for staff Program Operations & Organization Assist with coordinating scheduling, meets, tournaments, and travel logistics Manage equipment, facilities, and program budget responsibly Maintain clear communication with athletes, parents, school staff, and administration Ensure compliance with school district policies and MSHSAA requirements Community & Program Promotion Represent the Hannibal Pirates with professionalism and integrity Build strong relationships with parents, alumni, and the community Promote and grow the program through youth outreach, camps, and offseason opportunities Take pride in building a respected and visible program across Missouri Qualifications Previous wrestling coaching experience required Strong knowledge of wrestling techniques, training systems, and competitive strategy Proven ability to build or sustain a competitive program Commitment to student-athlete safety and ethical coaching practices Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills Ability to work with student-athletes of diverse backgrounds and skill levels Required Certifications (or ability to obtain): CPR/AED and First Aid certification Completion of Missouri State High School Activities Association coaching requirements Background check per district policy Preferred Qualifications Experience coaching at a high level of competition Background in offseason program development Teaching position within the district (if available) Equal Opportunity Employer Hannibal School District is an equal opportunity employer
