This position supports physicians and advanced practice providers in a variety of specialty and primary care environments to maintain efficient clinic operations and ensure high-quality patient care.The float role provides coverage during staff absences, vacancies, and periods of increased patient volume. Individuals in this role must be flexible, adaptable, and able to work effectively in different clinical settings while maintaining consistent patient care standards.Candidates may be hired as Medical Assistants or Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) based on licensure, education, and organizational needs.Reports ToThe Clinical Float reports directly to the Practice Manager for all operational, administrative, and clinical responsibilities and works collaboratively with physicians and advanced practice providers to support patient care.Essential FunctionsClinical ResponsibilitiesClinical duties involve direct patient care and assisting providers with examinations, treatments, and procedures.Responsibilities may include:Rooming patients and obtaining vital signsCollecting medical histories and updating patient recordsPreparing patients for examinations, procedures, and diagnostic testingAssisting providers during examinations and proceduresExplaining procedures and care instructions to patientsPerforming phlebotomy and specimen preparationPerforming EKGs or other diagnostic testing as appropriate to specialtyAdministering medications within scope of practiceRemoving sutures and performing basic wound care when appropriateCleaning and sterilizing medical instruments and equipmentPreparing exam rooms and maintaining clinical supply levelsAdministrative ResponsibilitiesAdministrative duties support the coordination of patient care and efficient clinic operations.Responsibilities may include:Maintaining confidentiality of patient health informationScheduling patient appointments and proceduresUpdating patient records in the electronic medical recordObtaining insurance authorizations and pre-certificationsMonitoring and responding to patient portal messagesOrdering laboratory tests and imaging studies as directed by providersManaging inventory and ordering clinical suppliesFollowing up with patients regarding test results or care instructionsClerical ResponsibilitiesClerical support duties assist with general office workflow when needed.Responsibilities may include:Answering phones and assisting with patient inquiriesGreeting and directing patientsFiling and scanning documentationHandling correspondencePerforming data entry and documentation supportFloat ResponsibilitiesClinical Float staff provide coverage across multiple Bloomington Medical Services practices and must be able to adapt to varying clinical workflows and specialties.Responsibilities include:Providing coverage during staff absences, vacancies, and increased patient demandSupporting providers across multiple specialties and practice locationsLearning and adapting to different clinical workflowsMaintaining consistent patient care standards across practicesAssisting with maintaining clinic flow and provider productivityThis position requires flexibility to support multiple Bloomington Medical Services practice locations and specialties and may require travel between sites as operational needs dictate.Required Skills and QualificationsAbility to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and specialtiesStrong organizational and multitasking skillsAbility to work collaboratively with physicians, advanced practice providers, and clinical staffExcellent communication and patient interaction skillsStrong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate documentationEducation and LicensureCandidates may qualify for this role through one of the following:Medical AssistantGraduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferredCertification requiredLicensed Practical Nurse (LPN)Current Ohio LPN license requiredWork schedules for the Clinical Float position will vary depending on the practice location and clinical area where coverage is needed. Shifts will occur Monday through Friday between the hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM.No evening shiftsNo weekend shiftsNo on-call requirementsThis position follows the Bloomington Medical Services (BMS) holiday schedule, and offices are closed on all BMS-approved holidays.
