JOB SUMMARY: The major responsibilities of the relief pharmacist are to fill in when a pharmacy needs assistance. Your primary responsibilities are to fill prescriptions for patients' health care needs and to manage pharmacy operations. Jobs can last one day or several days. One of your main job duties is to familiarize yourself with the pharmacy's arrangement, workflow, and software systems, so services continue as normal. You will also need people skills to build rapport with pharmacy techs and for your interactions with patients.to contribute to restoring and maintaining the health of the service population by promoting the rational inclusion of pharmaceutical products within community health and patient care management plans; the correct dispensing, use and administration of pharmaceutical products by patients by counseling all patients at time of dispensing; clinical staff consultation and monitoring. Additionally, the pharmacist ensures pharmaceutical and related products will be obtained from appropriate sources to assure quality, therapeutic efficiency, and reasonable costs. The pharmacist will ensure that deferral mandated sources (PHS, SSC, VA, and FSS) are used. All applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations will be compiled with in the purchase, handling, and distribution of pharmaceutical and related products and medical supplies. Examples of DutiesDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Routine Pharmacist Duties Selects, procures, prepares, and dispenses only those medications that conform to standards of quality for potency, purity, and effectiveness at the time they are administered or used by the patient.Legally responsible for proper interpretation of prescriptions and the dispensing of medications and drugs as prescribed.Reviews patient medical records for safety, appropriateness, and effectiveness of drug therapy by alerting medical staff to any prescription or dosage that can be harmful or dangerous to patients.Specifies and labels directions and precautions to assure proper protection of the contents and protection of the patient.Properly stores and protects drugs and chemicals to prevent reactions from external influences such as light, temperature, humidity, or interaction with the container.Computes dosage, weighs, and measures drugs, mixes and compounds drugs and chemicals to determine proper dosage and evaluates permissible concentrations.For prescriptions requiring special treatment and procedures, the incumbent adds proper agents, liquids or substances to dilute, moisten, and stabilize the drug to prevent chemical reactions. Consults and provides a wide range of drug information to the community and clinic staff.Counsel patients on the use, storage, cautions and side effects of all medications dispensed as well as documentation of cognitive services provided.Interview patients to ascertain significant past medical history and medication history. Evaluate medication regimens for appropriateness, drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, non-compliance and adverse drug events.Restocks the automated dispensing machines and performs daily maintenance functions on automated equipment. The pharmacist is held responsible for keeping an accurate count of medications, especially controlled medications, to prevent diversion of medications through theft and fraud and prescription drug abuse. The pharmacist performs other related duties as assigned.Supervision of Assigned Staff:Oversee the activities delegated to and/or assigned to the Pharmacy Technician. These will include:Maintain documented evidence of patients' insurance and other benefits; maintain the required records on self pay patients.The order and stocking of medications and supplies.The proper disposal of discarded documents to safeguard patient confidentiality.Standard Compliance:Responsible for operations within the department to ensure that services are provided in a manner which meets all applicable regulatory licensure and accrediting regulations.In conjunction with Health Center staff, evaluate pharmacy services in accord with plans, policies, and procedures, federal and state laws, rules and regulations and other applicable criteria. Typical QualificationsKNOWLEDGE: Exposure to Health Hazards of the Health Industry. Knowledge of the enforcement of safety and biohazard regulations.QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a bachelor's degree in pharmacy or PharmD. Must be registered as a Pharmacist with the State of Wisconsin, Department of Regulation and Licensing. Possess a broad professional knowledge in the field of pharmacy, and aspects of the total pharmacy operations. Good interpersonal skills; the ability to get along well with diverse personalities. Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Supplemental InformationPERSONAL CONTACTS: Daily contact with patients, visitors, primary care providers, Tribal and Health Center Administration, and other Health Center staff. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties assigned to this position involve bending, stooping, lifting, and carrying. Items may be placed on overhead shelving. Weights to be carried are usually less than 50 pounds. There will be periods of prolonged standing, walking, or sitting. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Red Cliff Community Health Center; office and clinic settings. Exposure to hazards of the health care industry. Work setting must be maintained as a clean, nonsmoking, well-ventilated area in compliance with all applicable safety regulations.TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of valid drivers' license and having regular access to a motor vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage. The ability to travel and attend meetings or training courses. The availability for out-of-town and overnight travel. May be asked to perform visits to patient homes.
