FLSA Employment Status: Nonexempt/Hourly JOB SUMMARY Obtains required prior authorizations for Radiology and Respiratory procedures and contacts the patient for scheduling and pre-registration. Obtains required prior authorizations for Surgical procedures as well as Injections, Infusions and Chemotherapy drugs, PT, ST, OT, Cardiac Rehabilitation and Sleep Studies. Reporting Structure: Reports to the Registration Supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Education High School Diploma or GED Equivalent Some business training preferred. Work Experience Work experience with the public required. Some hospital experience preferred. Patient registration admitting computer system application preferred. License/Certification n/a CORE COMPETENCIES Mission, Vision Core Values/Standards of Conduct AIDET/Organizational Expectations Safety Quality Flexibility Customer Service Diversity and Inclusion Finance Abuse and Neglect of Adult Patient Abuse and Neglect of Pediatric Patient Acute Coronary Syndrome/Chest Pain Protocols Biohazard Waste CC Hand Hygiene JOB SPECIFIC CORE COMPETENCIES Department Specific Specialty Area: * Knowledge of outpatient pre-registration standards. * Knowledge of Radiology and Respiratory scheduling rules. * Courteous, efficient telephone manner; prompt routing of calls. * Prompt and responsible communication skills. * Accurate, careful typing (emphasis on accuracy, not speed). * Legible handwriting. * Ability to follow through on work assignments ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Interviews patient or representative via phone to obtain and record name, address, phone number, age, religion, persons to notify in case of emergency, attending physician, and individual or insurance company responsible for payment of bill. * Utilizes insurance websites and phone numbers to obtain prior authorizations. * Utilizes computer software to obtain prior authorizations. * Registers patients on the phone and performs insurance verification. * Monitors requests for appointments and calls patients to schedule. * Notifies requesting physician of appointment date and time. * Scans documentation into document management system. * Obtains signed statement from patient to protect hospital's interests. * May receive payments on account. OTHER DUTIES May be expected to perform clerical and secretarial work. Performs other duties and special project work as required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS * This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds. * Must be able to see with corrective eye wear * Must be able to hear clearly with assistance * May be exposed to infectious and contagious diseases * May be in contact with patients under a variety of circumstances * Able to handle emergency or crisis situations * May be occasionally subject to irregular work hours * May be required to wear protective equipment as necessary * Ability to pass all required health and other screening tests including random and reasonable suspicion drug screens.
