New Therapeutic Camp Support staff members must be able to complete orientation and online training requirements between April 15th and May 22nd. New employees must attend in-person training May 26th to 29th during the day. As a Therapeutic Camp Support and Program Instructor with Camp Erie, you'll get the opportunity to support camp by providing 1:1 and individualized support to help campers participate successfully throughout the summer. Camp Erie is a state-licensed camp program for school-aged children and while the bulk of our programming takes place over the summer, we also offer short-term camps during Thanksgiving break, winter break, and spring school breaks. While this position is intended to end once camps ends, there may be opportunities to stay on staff to assist with year-round Therapeutic Programming needs if your schedule allows. Duties And Responsibilities Additional Responsibilities at Camp Erie If assigned to Camp Erie, responsibilities to include but not limited to: Completing all camp licensing training, providing 1:1 support in the camp setting, supporting the development of behavior plans based on campers assessed needs, providing physical modifications or supports May act as trainer for other camp staff on specific plan implementation or camper supports General Duties Performs a variety of duties associated with instructing or leading recreation programs for youth and/or individuals with disabilities that may include but is not limited to session based activities, classes, day trips, special events, volunteer opportunities, outdoor recreation, etc. Provides a safe, effective, and supportive learning environment for diverse participants with varying ability levels Assists Coordinator in supporting participants in various recreational programs Provides inclusion and accommodation support for other program areas as needed and may work 1:1 with individuals with disabilities Plans curriculum and conducts individualized or group instruction in areas of expertise Stays abreast of latest trends and techniques in areas of practice. Evaluates class effectiveness and recommends new classes or techniques Ensures participants are performing activities correctly and safely Uses knowledge to modify and adapt activities for various participant ability levels Stays familiar with participants needs and any pertinent medical information Maintains confidentiality with participant specific information Instructs and guides volunteers in various programs Sets up and takes down required program equipment Drives Town-owned vehicles to and from destinations while transporting passengers. Operates assigned motor vehicles safely and obeys all applicable traffic laws Ensures vehicle is ready for use including, but not limited to, obtaining keys, filling with gas, and cleaning vehicle/inspecting upon return Ensures passengers adhere to the correct usage of vehicle safety equipment Administrative Duties Maintains program related records and reports, including accurate class attendance records and incident reports Provides exceptional guest service to all participants. Responds to information requests, comments and complaints from participants Maintains volunteer hour tracking and promotes positive volunteer relationships Maintains frequent communications with other staff within the Community Center and Division and reports any issues or concerns with inventory, facility conditions, policies and incidents to supervisory staff as needed Ensures the safety of guests and program participants by enforcing all rules and policies with staff and guests Maintains equipment and completes inventory as needed Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings May be considered as a subject expert for area of specialization and may train other staff on specific knowledge Performs other related duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. One-year customer service, therapeutic recreation or related experience preferred. If assigned to Camp Erie: 455 hours of verifiable experience in the care and supervision of four or more children over the ages of 4 who are not related to you required. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
