Job Summary:Responsible for a series of activities related to successfully completing diagnostic and vascular ultrasounds on patients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Verifying patient clinical history and health status, evaluating related tests and imagesCommunicating comfortably and clearly with patient to explain the procedure, answer questions and relay information about what to expect during the procedureCommunicating any concerns to the referring or interpreting physician as needed prior to the planned procedureConsulting with medical professionals and independently assessing any possible need to adapt the planned procedure to achieve optimal resultsAdministering contrast media through an intravenous line as needed after receiving appropriate approvalUpholding quality patient care standards as professionally defined before, during and after the procedureOperating the ultrasound equipment and analyzing findings in real time during the examination to ensure optimal data is obtainedPerform venous duplex studies of the deep and superficial systems and arterial duplex studies, when needed. Assist physicians during the ultrasound guided procedures.Physically moving or assisting the movement of the patient as necessary to ensure comfort, a successful procedure and minimal patient exposure to high-frequency sound or x-raysEvaluating ultrasound, vascular results to identify expected and unexpected outcomes given the procedure plan as well as whether appropriate test guidelines and protocols were followedIdentifying and documenting unexpected results that may indicate the need for further testing or immediate medical attentionCompleting ultrasound technician worksheets that explain test findings to the physicianDemonstrates clear ownership of workplace and patient safety. Reports mistakes, near misses, adverse events and quality and safety concerns. Participates in the development and implementation of safety and quality improvement activitiesMust be available for on-call duty for ultrasound.Protects patient privacy and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and privacy laws.Other duties as may be assigned.Job Requirements:Education: Associates' degree required; Bachelor's preferred. Completion of an approved ultrasound and vascular technology.Licensure/Certification: Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer required; Certification as Registered Vascular Specialist/Tech required. Must maintain CPR Certification.Experience: Two (2) years of Ultrasound & vascular experience is required. Excellent communication, organization and patient care skills required.Physical Requirements: Frequent walking and standing; ability to use heavy equipment and maneuver patients; occasionally lift up to 100 lbs alone. Frequent bending, reaching, and stooping. Good visual acuity.
