Students may also have significant communication needs (i.e., students identified multiple disabilities, autism, other health impairment, etc. ). Intervention Specialists will be responsible for planning, executing and delivering instructional across areas (e.g., academic, functional daily living skills, communication, behavior, etc.). Teachers are supported by and supervise paraprofessionals. Teachers collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., general education teachers, occupational therapist, speech pathologist, etc.) to meet student needs. Experience with best practices for supporting students with diverse needs is desired (e.g., structured teaching, positive behavior supports, PECS, and sensory supports). Sail Teacher Qualifications: Ohio licensure as an Intervention Specialist - Moderate to Intensive preferred, but not required. Sail Program Overview: A program to support students with significant academic, cognitive and daily living skill needs. This program focuses on strengthening functional communication skills, social skills and daily living skills. This program is also designed to support students with medical and or mobility needs. Students may still participate in the general education setting for parts of the day when appropriate, as determined by the IEP team. Sail Program Features: Students are supported by program staff with ongoing professional development in academic instruction and curriculum modification. Staff incorporate building social and communication skills throughout the day, while also increasing independence with all activities. If needed, students have access to assistive technology, close position to restroom and services to address health needs. Services are provided using a team approach.
