The Department of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia (UVA) School of Medicine seeks an outstanding psychiatrist to join our Transplant Psychiatry Service. Rank (Assistant/Associate/Professor) and tenure status are commensurate with qualifications.The selected candidate will provide comprehensive psychiatric care for solid organ transplant patients across the continuum of care, including both inpatient evaluation and management as well as outpatient assessment and longitudinal follow-up of pre- and post-transplant patients. This role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary transplant teams to support optimal psychosocial readiness, adherence, and post-transplant adjustment.Clinical duties will include inpatient transplant evaluations and management alongside outpatient care of transplant candidates and recipients. Depending on the interests and expertise of the candidate, additional responsibilities may include consultation-liaison psychiatry, emergency department psychiatry, or general outpatient care.The incumbent will teach and supervise fellows, residents and medical students, provide in-person care, and share in faculty call for nights/weekends as part of a rotation. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a clinician-educator interested in transplant psychiatry, medical psychiatry, and integrated care within complex medical populations.Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Care• Provide psychiatric evaluation and management of solid organ transplant patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.• Conduct pre-transplant comprehensive assessments to support transplant candidacy evaluations.• Deliver longitudinal outpatient care to transplant candidates and recipients before and after transplantation.• Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary transplant teams to address behavioral health needs, adherence, and psychosocial risk factors impacting outcomes.• Deliver integrated, evidence-based care across the transplant continuum.• Additional clinical work, aligned with candidate interests, may include inpatient consultation-liaison psychiatry, emergency department psychiatry, or general outpatient psychiatry.Education and Supervision• Teach and supervise psychiatry fellows, residents, medical students, and other learners within transplant and medical psychiatry settings.• Contribute to educational initiatives, including clinical teaching, case-based learning, and quality improvement efforts related to transplant populations.LocationUVA Health is located in Charlottesville, Virginia-a vibrant, historically rich community with strong schools, easy access to the Blue Ridge Mountains, and a thriving arts and food scene.
