Position SummaryA Virtual Chief Information Officer (vCIO) - Healthcare is a strategic technology and business leader who serves as a trusted advisor to physician practices, senior living communities, post-acute care providers, and pharmacy organizations. This role aligns IT strategy with clinical, operational, and financial outcomes-ensuring technology enhances patient and resident care, provider productivity, medication management, regulatory compliance, and overall organizational performance across multi-site healthcare environments.The vCIO ensures technology supports safe, compliant, and scalable delivery of care while driving measurable business outcomes across diverse healthcare settings.Key Responsibilities / DutiesClient Environment & Technology OversightMaintain deep knowledge of client environments, including:EHR/PM systems (e.g., Epic, Athenahealth, NextGen, eClinicalWorks, PointClickCare, MatrixCare)Pharmacy systems (dispensing, inventory, eMAR integrations)Revenue cycle and billing systemsImaging systems (PACS) and specialty clinical devicesNurse call, care management, and medication administration systemsStrategic Planning & BudgetingDevelop and manage IT budgets aligned to:Practice growth, facility expansion, and new locationsOccupancy and census trendsPharmacy operations and service line expansionCreate and maintain multi-year technology roadmaps focused on:Clinical and resident care quality and safetyProvider and staff productivityPatient/resident access and engagementMedication accuracy and efficiencyRevenue cycle performance and reimbursement optimizationMulti-site standardization and scalabilityOperational OptimizationAdvise on and optimize:Clinical and caregiver workflowsMedication management workflows (eMAR, pharmacy integration, dispensing automation)Revenue cycle processesMobility solutions (tablets, handheld devices)Connectivity (enterprise Wi-Fi, redundancy, uptime for 24/7 environments)Drive integration across:EHR, pharmacy, imaging, and specialty systemsClinical, operational, and financial data platformsImprove data interoperability, reporting, and analytics capabilitiesCompliance & Risk ManagementProvide guidance on healthcare regulatory requirements, including:HIPAA / HITECHCMS, MIPS, and value-based care programsSkilled nursing and post-acute regulationsState pharmacy regulations and audit readinessLead cybersecurity strategy to protect PHI and sensitive dataConduct IT risk assessments, business continuity planning, and downtime preparedness for care-critical environmentsExecutive Engagement & AdvisoryFacilitate Executive Business Reviews (EBRs) with:Physicians, administrators, operators, and executive leadershipPrivate equity-backed ownership groupsTranslate IT strategy into measurable outcomes:Improved patient/resident outcomesReduced medication errorsIncreased provider and staff efficiencyEnhanced financial performanceBusiness Development & GrowthPartner with sales to:Support new client acquisition across healthcare verticalsDeliver technology assessments and gap analysis with actionable recommendationsIdentify and drive white space opportunities, including:Infrastructure modernizationCybersecurity and compliance solutionsCloud and application optimizationPharmacy and clinical system integrationMulti-site standardizationCollaborate with leadership to develop and refine healthcare-specific service offeringsKnowledge, Skills, Abilities, and BehaviorsStrong understanding of:Ambulatory care and physician workflows across specialtiesSenior living, post-acute care, and long-term care operationsPharmacy workflows and medication management systemsExperience supporting multi-site, distributed healthcare environments with high availability requirementsAbility to connect IT strategy to:Clinical and resident outcomesPatient experience and engagementOperational efficiency and cost optimizationStrong executive presence with the ability to influence:Physicians, caregivers, administrators, and ownership groupsBalance of compliance, usability, and financial stewardshipExcellent communication, leadership, facilitation, and presentation skillsEducation / Experience10+ years of IT leadership experience, preferably in:Healthcare, physician practices, senior living, post-acute care, or pharmacy environmentsExperience supporting multi-site healthcare organizationsBachelor's degree or equivalent experiencePreferred QualificationsMSP experience supporting healthcare clientsExperience with:EHR platforms (Epic, Athenahealth, NextGen, eClinicalWorks, PointClickCare, MatrixCare)Pharmacy systems and eMAR integrationsFamiliarity with tools such as ConnectWise, BrightGauge, MyITProcess, ScalepadExperience working with private equity-backed healthcare organizationsWork Schedule / TravelStandard business hours with flexibility for urgent care or pharmacy needsTravel: 20-30% (clinics, facilities, pharmacies, and executive meetings)Benefits & Compensation-Meriplex employees receive a full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, group term life insurance, 401K, plus PTO, holiday pay, as well as referral bonuses.Current Pay Range: $150,000 - 200,000/ Annual Salary Physical Demands: Sedentary Work - Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
