Position Title: Mental Health Professional - Innovation AcademyReports To: Director of Positive School Culture and Climate and Principal & Assistant Principal(s) Status: Full-Time (FTE 1.0) Monday - FridayWork Year: 11 months (August - June); 192 work days (Start and year to be determined)FLSA Status: ExemptUnion Affiliation: Non AffiliatedSUMMARY: The Mental Health Professional creates and sustains connections with students and families. The Mental Health Professional continuously improves their practice through professional learning and collaboration with peers. The Mental Health Professional integrates into Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) of the Innovation Academy team in order to expand the availability of support available to high school students with mild to moderate mental health issues and social-emotional needs. The Mental Health Professional offers individual therapy, family therapy, assessments and crisis intervention services. The Mental Health Professional engages clients in group therapy and a range of therapeutic activities and interventions that help children achieve success in their homes, schools, and communities through development and application of social and emotional skills. For students requiring more intensive services, the Mental Health Professional will coordinate with community mental health agencies to make appropriate referrals. The Mental Health Professional regularly collaborates with teachers, administrators, and school teams, and participates in the prevention and early intervention. The Mental Health Professional will also assist in assessing the current BK-12 mental health model in order to enhance the model in relation to the MTSS model. The Mental Health Professional provides professional development for district staff.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Determine the needs of students for specific psychological, health or related services. Develop a treatment service plan for students with behavioral, social, emotional, or mental health concerns with input from the student, school personnel, and parents/caregivers as appropriate. Coordinate with school leadership teams to incorporate and enhance mental health, behavioral, and social-emotional services in a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Family consultation and support to strengthen home-school connections, including home visitations Staff consultation and professional development on trauma-informed practices Obtain, integrate, and interpret information regarding a student's behavior and supports necessary for success in school and life, and plan and management of mental health services. Assess the effectiveness of delivered services toward achieving student-driven goals and objectives. Assess needs for additional services, making referrals when appropriate to the Community Mental Health System. Provide crisis intervention and be an active member on school-based behavior intervention teams. Assist students and parents/caregivers in understanding student diagnosis, behavioral health needs, and support services offered. Group counseling sessions targeting common themes based on student needs Through an ongoing stakeholder process, assess the current BK-12 student and staff mental health models and make recommendations for enhanced services. Participate in monthly collaborative meetings with the Director of Positive School Climate & Culture, Director of Special Education Services, and Livingston County Mental Health Coordinator to align supports, share learning, and coordinate services across district and county systems Provide professional development to district staff. Maintain confidentiality. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, plans of care, and student records using bhworks in accordance with district and legal requirements Regular, predictable attendance. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must possess one of the following certifications: A licensed master's level psychologist, MDE credentialed master's level school psychologist, or a limited licensed master's level psychologist under the supervision of a licensed master's level psychologist. A licensed master's level social worker or school social worker, or a limited licensed master's level social worker under the supervision of a licensed master's level social worker. A LARA licensed master's level professional counselor. Experience working with high-need youth populations, preferably in a school-based setting Demonstrated competency in trauma-informed care and crisis intervention Experience with a diverse student and parent population. QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS: Ability to provide compassionate, empathic support to struggling students and members of the school community. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs. (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, etc.). Ability to create documents that are well organized and display information that is logical and graphically appealing. Ability to operate Google Office Platform, including Google email, sheets and slides. Self motivated and willing to learn. Ability to learn software and web-based programs as needed. Ability to seek and retrieve information from the internet and other sources. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all District Requirements and Board policies. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively, speaking clearly and communicate thoughts succinctly. Excellent grammatical, spelling and punctuation skills. Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism with minimal supervision. Proficient in problem solving skills. Excellent computer and keyboarding skills. Accurate and detail oriented. Ability to portray a professional demeanor in appearance and behavior. Ability to develop effective working relationships with staff, students, parents, administration and the school community. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to coordinate hands, eyes, feet and limbs in performing semi-skilled movements such as operation of a computer keyboard, telephone, calculator and dictation equipment.
